New Year, Same Bruins?

One-Sided Series Lately

The No. 11 UCLA Bruins (12-2) ended 2022 on a nine-game win streak, a trend they hope continues into 2023 when they visit the Washington Huskies (9-5) on New Year’s Day. Washington comes into this matchup on a two-game losing streak – both at home – and has also dropped its last six in the head-to-head series with the Bruins.

UCLA won by an average of 18.5 points in the 2022 sweep, which makes the -11½ point spread on the NCAAB lines look on the low side.

Let’s check the latest college basketball odds, stats, injury reports, and college basketball lines for UCLA vs Washington. We’ve plenty of NCAA basketball odds for you to consider.

Successful Trip to Washington for the Bruins

It wasn’t their most dominant performance of the NCAAB season, but UCLA was able to rally after trailing for 35 minutes to upend Washington State 67-66 on Friday in Pullman. The Bruins failed to cover the six-point spread in that game but were happy just to escape with a victory and extend their win streak to nine games.

Nobody could blame the Bruins for coming out a little flat on Friday, as it was the first game back after a nine-day layoff for the Christmas break. The Bruins have also run through quite the gauntlet lately, dominating on the road in a tough matchup with then-No. 20 Maryland 87-60 and following that up with a 63-53 victory over then-No. 13 Kentucky at Madison Square Garden.

UCLA is No. 4 according to the KenPom rankings. They have balance as the No. 6 adjusted offense and the No. 11 adjusted defense, so it’s hard to see how Washington (106) pulls out the win – or even keeps this one within single digits.

Huskies in a Skid

Washington has dropped three of their last five, and those losses haven’t been particularly close. The slide started with a 60-77 defeat at Gonzaga and has continued with an 84-61 loss to Auburn and an 80-67 setback against USC, both at home. When you’re not scoring – or stopping your opponent – you’re not going to get a lot of backers taking you when betting online, even when getting +11½ points.

The Huskies don’t even get the advantage of UCLA having to travel extensively for this game, considering it’s just a 300-mile jaunt from Pullman to Seattle. The Bruins prevailed 77-66 at the Edmundson Pavilion last season as UW had no answer for Jaime Jaquez, Jr., who had 30 points. The Bruins covered an -8½ point spread in that tilt.

Jaquez, Jr. continues to plug away for the Bruins, leading the team with a 17.2 ppg average. Washington has an elite scorer as well, with Keion Brooks scoring 17.1 ppg, but they don’t have anywhere near the depth that UCLA does.

UCLA vs Washington Head-to-Head

UCLA has won six straight in the series and nine of the last 10, covering a -15 and an -8½ point spread at the sportsbook in last year’s two meetings.

UCLA vs Washington Picks & Prediction

It would be one thing if the Huskies had lost their last two games on a buzzer-beater or had at least kept it reasonable, but they’ve lost by 23 and 13 while giving just +3½ and +2½ points, respectively. If oddsmakers were that far off in those games, UCLA -11½ appears to be another blowout on paper.

The Bruins extend their win streak to 10 games, and it might be time to get in on them for the March Madness odds before the number starts to plummet.
