West Virginia’s Turnover Trouble
The Mountaineers’ weekend loss to Texas halted a two-game winning streak for them.
West Virginia previously defeated Oklahoma and Iowa State at home with solid offensive performances, but it struggled against the Longhorns.
The Mountaineers are third in the conference, averaging 76.8 points a game on 45.5% shooting, but failed to reach either of those marks in their loss. In its last two wins, West Virginia averaged 84.5 points on 44.5% shooting, but against Texas, it scored 60 points on 35.2% shooting.
West Virginia’s main issue in the loss, however, was its turnovers. The Mountaineers average 12.8 turnovers, but they were turned over 20 times on Saturday, leading to 32 points for the Longhorns. In its previous two wins, West Virginia averaged 10.5 turnovers, leading opponents to an average of 9.5 points.
The Mountaineers also failed to disrupt Texas. After their previous two opponents recorded 15 turnovers, leading to 19.5 points a game for the Mountaineers, West Virginia turned over the Longhorns six times to earn eight points.
In their first games against Baylor, the Mountaineers finished with seven turnovers, leading to eight Baylor points, helping to keep the game close.
West Virginia will need to do a better job in the turnover battle in order to keep up with the surging Bears.
Baylor Comes Back
The Bears grabbed their third win in a row after a come-from-behind victory against TCU.
The win was Baylor’s third this season after trailing at halftime, and the Bears had to overcome a 10-point second-half deficit to earn it.
Though Baylor and TCU kept it close in the first half, the Horned Frogs hit one more shot at the end of the half to take a 34-31 lead into halftime. Both teams were shooting well, with the Bears converting on 42.3% of their shots while the Horned Frogs finished shooting 53.8% in the first half.
The teams traded blows to start the second half, but the Frogs went on a streak to gain a double digit lead in the middle of the second.
The Bears’ comeback effort was led by Adam Flagler, who scored 16 straight for Baylor to erase the deficit and take a 66-62 lead. Flager finished with a season-high 28 points.
Flagler is Baylor’s second-leading scorer, averaging 15.9 points. Although Keyonte George leads the Bears in scoring with 16.9 points a game, he was largely ineffective against TCU, finishing with four points. Instead, it was Flagler and LJ Cryer who made the difference. Cryer, who averages 14.4 points for third on the team, scored 23 points in the win.
The Bears needed a good scoring day from all three players in their first win over West Virginia, with George leading with 32 points while Flagler and Cryer added 19 and 13, respectively.
Baylor will need another balanced scoring effort to earn its season sweep of the Mountaineers.

West Virginia vs Baylor Picks and Prediction
The last meeting between these two was close, and with the Mountaineers and Bears owning two of the top three offenses in the Big 12, the second matchup should be as well.
Though both teams are strong offensively, neither team has the same effect on defense. West Virginia is last in the Big 12, allowing 70.2 points a game, while Baylor is second-worst by allowing 69.1 points a game. Although both offenses have been playing well, aside from the Mountaineers’ recent loss, West Virginia’s turnover trouble combined with Baylor’s strength at home should give the Bears the edge. However, the game should remain close, allowing the Mountaineers to cover.
