The Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans will each begin Big Ten play when the two clash Tuesday. It’s been a bit of a bumpy road for the Spartans to start the season. After beginning the season ranked No. 4, they have fallen from the rankings altogether after losing three games, including their opener to James Madison.
No. 23 Wisconsin has won its last five games, capped with a defeat of No. 3 Marquette, to enter the rankings for the first time. Both will be looking to get their first conference win, but NCAA basketball odds favor Michigan State.
Defense Reason to Bet Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Badgers won their fifth game in a row to rank No. 23 in the latest AP Top 25 poll after they downed No. 3 Marquette following another strong defensive game.
Wisconsin has kept its last five opponents to 56.6 points a game on a 41% shooting percentage. In its last game against Marquette, it held the Eagles 64 points on 41.8% shooting, also outrebounding them 38-23 to get the win.
The Badgers’ defense also helped them secure a neutral-site victory over then-No. 24 Virginia, limiting the Cavaliers to 41 points on 32.6% shooting and dominating the boards once again 48-21.

Wisconsin has held opponents to 63.9 points a game and its strong defense should help keep it in the game and remain a solid NCAA pick for Dec. 5 against the Spartans.
Michigan State Bounces Back
The Spartans rebounded from their third loss of the season with a strong game offensively against Georgia Southern.
After falling 74-68 to then-No. 3 Arizona, Michigan State scored its highest point total yet against the Eagles, finishing with 86 points on 51.7% shooting behind four double-digit performances from its starters.
However, the Spartans have had trouble getting their offense going against stronger teams, scoring 65 and 68 points against ranked foes Duke and Arizona, respectively, while shooting 41% in those games as well.
Michigan State will hope to ride its offensive momentum from its last win, but against another strong Wisconsin defense, bettors may want to see if it can start strong again before taking a look at some College Basketball live betting odds.

Wisconsin’s defense has been the name of its game to start the season and the reason for some of its big wins. Luckily for the Badgers, defense travels, and they should be able to make things tough for a Spartans offense that hasn’t performed as well against Power Five opponents.
The Badgers have also done a good job of crashing the boards and have gotten a lot of balanced scoring, something that should help them against a strong Michigan State defense. With the Spartans relying on just a couple of key scorers, that will likely prove beneficial as well and help them cover the spread.
