A classic rivalry gets a new chapter as the Southeastern Conference “Tiger Bowl” pits the visiting Auburn Tigers, ranked 22nd in the AP Top 25, against the LSU Tigers. The college football odds have the home team as the favorites despite the visitors being the ranked team. This is due to LSU having Auburn’s number in recent history.

LSU leads the Tiger Bowl with a 31-21-1 record over Auburn. The “Fighting Tigers” of Louisiana State have won three of the last four games and seven of the last 10. They are the sportsbook’s favorites here since Auburn is just 3-3 when it is the only ranked team in this matchup.
Next game: vs (2) Georgia
The Tigers bounced back from their loss against Penn State with a 34-24 win over Georgia State. Auburn, however, failed to cover its 27½-point spread. Things got sweaty for Auburn and its moneyline backers as it allowed the Panthers to score 21 second-quarter points. But the TIgers fought back, shut them down in the second half, and won.
There are no new major injuries to report for Auburn.
Next game: at Kentucky
LSU rattled off its third straight win with a narrow 28-25 victory over Mississippi State. The Tigers were just 1½-point favorites in what was supposed to be a tough test similar to UCLA, which they flunked. But LSU held strong and overcame a 15-point fourth-quarter run from the Bulldogs to win.

Senior edge rusher Andre Anthony (knee) is done for the season. Offensive tackle Cameron Wire (undisclosed) is also on the mend and this is the latest on LSU’s long list of injuries.
Betting on the Game
LSU may have been beating Auburn more in the Tiger Bowl, but the visitors have covered on six of the last 10 games. This is one of the closest rivalries in recent history with the total score being seven points apart in favor of Louisiana State.
Despite the fact it is ranked, Auburn is the underdog here at three points per the college football spreads. The Tigers have not covered in its last five games as an underdog while LSU is 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last six against the SEC. Auburn did cover its last two games in Tiger Stadium.
New Auburn coach Bryan Harsin went 24-15-1 ATS as a road team with Boise State and 4-0-0 as an underdog. This rebuilding team is still an enigma, but LSU is not a finished product itself.
For Auburn, it boils down to the ability to assert its offense amid a ferocious pass rush from the other Tigers. LSU has 18 sacks and has forced nine turnovers. Even if some of this is against McNeese State, the point is this team is generating plenty of pressure up front.
Former LSU quarterback TJ Finley was a catalyst for Auburn. Going down against Georgia State isn’t acceptable, but Auburn dug deep and found a way to win. It can also exploit LSU’s defensive gaps to come away with this game. At three points, Auburn has leeway when betting online.
Harsin is 29-10-0 when playing on the road and Auburn has not beaten LSU when visiting them this millennium. Auburn is also winless as an underdog since 2020. Losing streaks can snap and this is a new Auburn team with a different voice.
That is both a gift and a curse. At least Ed Orgeron has been with LSU since 2016 and there is more continuity with the Tigers. However, Auburn gets stronger as the game goes on and if LSU lets its foot off the pedal as it did against Mississippi State, the visitors may just spring an upset. Either way, this one will go down to the wire.
At 55.5, the total here is banking on both teams taking it to each other. Their scoring averages add up to 78.5 points, but their defenses should cut down on that as Auburn is allowing just 15.5 points while LSU, just 22.8. Still, four of Auburn’s last five games have gone over along with five of LSU’s last seven.
But when you factor in the rivalry here, the defenses could be sharper than what it usually is with the extra motivation. Four of their last five meetings have gone under. Even the 2019 game that featured Joe Burrow and star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson went under as LSU managed just 23 points.
