Tulane, South Florida and UTSA all host Memphis (+220 to win AAC) in critical games that could determine spots in the league championship game. USF (+600) also visits Tulane (+350) while UTSA (+500) avoids those two this season and hosts the Tigers in November.

Which of the other 10 teams in the league will stand out as threats to the top four will be determined, with Rice, Florida Atlantic, East Carolina and perhaps North Texas being the most likely candidates to spring upsets.

With SMU leaving for the ACC, there will be no repeat AAC champion this season. Army takes the spot of the Mustangs and its annual battle with rival Navy ends the league schedule on Dec. 14.

It should be an interesting, wide-open year in the league. You may get some very good value at the BetUS Sportsbook.

The Top Four 2024 NCAA Betting Games in the AAC

1. USF at Tulane: Early Test in New Orleans

South Florida is coming off its first winning season in five years and faces a very difficult early schedule that includes a non-conference contest at Alabama.

The Bulls also face Miami (Fla.) before opening the league season on the road against Tulane on Sept. 28. The teams last met in 2022 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa with the Green Wave earning a 45-31 victory.

This could be another high-scoring game and the over is likely a good college football bet. USF quarterback Byrum Brown was second in the league in total yards per game a season ago and Tulane should also have a solid offense.

Tulane’s running back Makhi Hughes led the league in rushing with 1,378 yards in 2023. If the Green Wave can win this one, they could be unbeaten in league play for a while.

It doesn’t get easier for USF (+600). The Bulls host Memphis on Oct. 11

2. UTSA at Rice: In-State Battle Could Be Key

If Rice wants to make an impact on the AAC race, the Owls must conquer UTSA. If the Roadrunners hope to make the league title game, they must start with a big road win in Houston against their state foe on Oct. 12.

Rice owns the fifth lowest odds (+1200) to win the league and could have one of the best quarterbacks. Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner’s son E.J. joins the team after transferring from Temple. Warner led the league in passing yards per game in 2023.

UTSA is 39-14 since 2020 when Jeff Traylor took over as coach and the Roadrunners should have a solid offense if one of their two new quarterbacks work out to support solid running back Kevorian Barnes.

It’s a good bet this will be an important game. It will tell those online betting how good UTSA can be.

3. Memphis at UTSA: Roadrunners Big Stand

UTSA was 5-1 at home last season and 4-0 in its first AAC season. The Roadrunners would like that streak to continue, but a visit from Memphis on Nov 2 is critical.

Owen McCown, the son of former NFL QB Josh McCown, is expected to battle Eddie Lee Marburger for the No. 1 job. The two combined to complete 69 percent of their passes for 742 yards behind starter Frank Harris last season.

The Tigers could have a lethal offense, led by quarterback Seth Henigan. The senior led the AAC with 3,883 yards passing and 32 TDs. Memphis linebacker Chandler Martin could lead an improved defense.

It would not be a bad college football prediction that this is the biggest game of the year in the league and perhaps a preview of the title game.

4. Memphis at Tulane: Turkey Day showdown

One of the best football games on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28) may end up being this battle in New Orleans.

Memphis had the top offense in the league last season, averaging 39.4 points while Tulane was one of the better defensive teams – allowing 20.5 per contest.

The Tigers should have a solid running attack to go with Henigan, keyed by South Carolina transfer Mario Anderson and returnee Sutton Smith.

Jon Sumrall takes over for Wille Fritz, who left to coach Houston. The Green Wave may go through adjustments early on, but backers should know all they need by this date to make solid college football bets.

Much will depend on Tulane’s offense, which will have a new quarterback and a few promising transfer receivers.
