BIG 12 Conference Roundup Week 7

Arguably the game of the year took place last weekend in the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas. It was an offensive frenzy and a hot start by Texas had many thinking blowout. The two other games in the conference showcased high-scoring affairs and makes the matchups in Week 7 much more interesting.

Texas had Oklahoma on the ropes early, leading 14-0 within the first two and 28-7 after one quarter. The Longhorns held a 41-23 lead late in the third quarter before Oklahoma rallied late for a 55-48 win.

Baylor beat West Virginia, and TCU knocked off Texas Tech in the other two games last week in the Big 12.

The games this week are set for more high-powered matchups and are sure to be entertaining.

Oklahoma State at Texas

Odds: Texas -5½

This game features two ranked teams, and in the order you would not think. Oklahoma State enters the week at No. 12 and Texas sits at No. 25 in the AP Poll.

Oklahoma State is scorching hot coming off its bye week at 5-0 and owns wins over Kansas State and Baylor. The Cowboys are a dark horse in the Big 12 this year. Their other wins were against Boise State, Tulsa and Missouri State, all very good teams. Oklahoma State has been led by quarterback Spencer Sanders and running back Jaylen Warren. Sanders has completed over 58 percent of his passes and has five touchdowns and four interceptions.

Texas will be a tough team to play against after the second-half collapse against Oklahoma. The Longhorns led 38-20 at the half but then only scored 10 points for the rest of the game, a touchdown in the third quarter and a field goal in the fourth. Casey Thompson led the way by completing 20 of 34 passes for 388 yards and five touchdowns. Xavier Worthy brought in nine catches for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

Even though Oklahoma State is ranked 12th, Texas is favored. The Longhorns have an offense that can score points in a hurry and will have to against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys’ offense brings a lot of questions if this matchup turns into a track meet, Texas covers easily and runs away with this game. Oklahoma State will need to dictate the game on the defensive side to win this game. We like Texas due to the offense that the Longhorns bring. Click betnow to bet on Texas this week.

BYU at Baylor

Odds: Baylor -6

Baylor comes off a 45-20 win against West Virginia to move to 5-1. Baylor is led by a strong defense but has a tall task on their hands this week with No. 19 BYU coming to town.

Looking at the college football lines, the over/under for points has been set at 50 for this game. That is very low with a Big 12 team involved, but the Bears are far from an offensive juggernaut. It was a big week for the Baylor defense last week with six sacks, seven tackles for a loss and one interception.

Gerry Bohanon had himself a week as well, completing 18 of 29 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns. Tyquan Thornton added eight receptions for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

BYU (5-1) is coming off a Week 6 loss to Boise State, its first defeat. While Boise State is having a rough go of it , the Broncos are still a good team and can give anyone a ballgame.

Baylor will be too much defensively for BYU to handle and should cover. We like the over in this game as Baylor’s offense seems to be finding its stride.

TCU at Oklahoma

Odds: Oklahoma -10½

Both TCU and Oklahoma won big games in Week 6 and scored a lot of points in doing so. Oklahoma erased a 21-point deficit and beat Texas on a late comeback led by backup quarterback Caleb Williams. Oklahoma turned things around when Spencer Rattler was benched for Williams. Last week was a key game for the offense to come alive and get Oklahoma headed in the right direction.

Williams completed 16 of 25 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns and added 88 yards and a score on the ground. It was a big day for Kennedy Brooks, who rushed for 217 yards and two TDs on 25 attempts. Marvin Mims may have brought in the best catch we will see all year in the front corner of the end zone late in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 41-all.

In the postgame interview, Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley explained his reasoning for benching Rattler.

“Really had a lot to do with turnovers,” Riley said.

Looking at TCU, they ran past Texas Tech 52-31 last weekend. The Horned Frogs had two players with over 140 yards rushing. Kendre Miller ran for 185 yards and Zach Evans for 143 yards while combining for five touchdowns.

According to the BetUS sportsbook, Oklahoma is favored by 10½ points and that should be covered if the Sooners stick with Williams. Riley has not named a starter but the decision should be very obvious based on the play from this last week. Oklahoma has struggled all season but actually flourished once Williams came on Saturday. The Sooners will win and cover vs TCU.

Iowa State at Kansas State

Odds: Iowa State -6½

Both teams are coming off a bye weekand looking to turn around their seasons. Iowa State comes in at 3-2 and fifth in the Big 12. Kansas State (3-2) has lost two straight.

Both teams were ranked at one point this season, but Iowa State fell out of the Top 25 after losses to Iowa and Baylor. Kansas State started hot with wins against Stanford, Southern Illinois and Nevada, but back-to-back losses against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma have the Wildcats reeling.

Kansas State featuress a balanced offense, led by the running of Deuce Vaughn and the passing of quarterback Skylar Thompson. The defense has kept Kansas State with 15 sacks, four interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

Iowa State had large expectations and has fallen short. Brock Purdy is having a very good year with over 1,100 passing yards and eight touchdown passes. The defense has forced 11 sacks to go along with three interceptions and three fumbles.

This game is sure to be a tight contest. The college football spreads have Iowa State favored by nearly a touchdown, and this game between two very competitive and similar teams could come down to the wire. We like Iowa State because its offense is going to be too much for Kansas State to handle.
