- Get the best College Football Playoff odds at BetUS.
- Only Clemson has longer odds of winning the national championship than Arizona State.
- Can the Sun Devils win their first postseason game since 2019?
When the 2024 college football season began, Arizona State was priced by BetUS Sportsbook at +60000 in the odds of winning the national championship and +10000 in the Big 12 title odds. Those who rolled with the Sun Devils have already cashed in on one of the college futures bets. Will another big payday be coming?

When Arizona State lost to Texas Tech in its first conference game as a Big 12 member and needed a touchdown in the final 20 seconds to beat Kansas, there wasn’t much talk about Arizona State being included in the College Football Playoff field. Not only are the Sun Devils one of the 12 teams in contention to win the national title, they receive a bye into the quarterfinals.
Let’s look at why Arizona State can stick around in the quest for the national title even if the Sun Devils are tied for 10th among the 12 teams at +5000 in the odds to win the NCAAF championship.
4 Reasons to Bet on Arizona State to Win the National Title
1. Sun Devils Playing With Plenty of Confidence
Arizona State had to vacate 12 wins during the 2021 and 2022 seasons for NCAA rules violations when former NFL head coach Herm Edwards was the Arizona State head coach. Kenny Dillingham’s first season at Arizona State saw the Sun Devils go 3-9 and finish tied for ninth in their final season in the Pac-12.
What a difference a year makes. Arizona State has won its last six games with three of those coming against ranked teams.
ASU rolled to a 49-7 win over rival Arizona in the regular-season finale to clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game. Although the Sun Devils were listed by the NCAA football spread as an underdog, they had no issues dispatching Iowa State 45-19 to win the Big 12 title and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff field.
It remains to be seen how ASU fares against either Texas or ACC champion Clemson in the quarterfinals but there will be value in going with the Sun Devils to advance.
2. The Skattebo Show to Continue
Cam Skattebo spent his first two seasons at Sacramento State before coming to Arizona State when Kenny Dillingham took the job.

The 215-pound Skattebo opened some eyes when he ran for 262 yards against Mississippi State in the second game of the season. He ran for more than 100 yards seven times and topped 100 receiving yards on two other occasions.
Neither Clemson nor Texas ranks in the top 10 in the country in rushing defense. If the seeds hold, the semifinal matchup would come against an Oregon team that is 35th nationally in rushing defense.
Skattebo will be a popular option in college football player prop bets.
Dillingham came to Arizona State after serving as the offensive coordinator at Oregon during the 2022 season so he is pretty familiar with many of the Oregon players. While the last time that Arizona State faced Oregon, the Ducks won 49-13, the previous three matchups were decided by three points or less.

3. Being An Underdog Is Just Fine For the Sun Devils
Arizona State doesn’t have much of a problem playing as an underdog. The Sun Devils are 4-2 both outright and against the NCAAF spread this season.
There are those who are expecting Texas to roll to the semifinals and that could set the stage for the Sun Devils to continue to defy the college football odds.
The offensive and defensive numbers might not stand out but this is a team that knows how to hang around against favored opponents.

The Sun Devils will get an extra week to prepare while Clemson and Texas slug it out. That could prove beneficial in the quarterfinals.
4. Sun Devils Can Win The Turnover Battle
One number that stands out when looking at Arizona State stats is that the Sun Devils have had a negative turnover margin just twice this season. Since turning the ball over three times and not registering a takeaway against Texas Tech and Kansas, Arizona State had 14 takeaways and just four giveaways.
The ability to turn turnovers into points throughout the season has been a strength of the 2024 Arizona State Sun Devils.
Arizona State is tied with Boise State and Indiana for the fewest number of giveaways among teams in the College Football Playoff field. That is a formula ASU will look to follow in the playoffs.
