Georgia Bulldogs at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: Betting Guide

Georgia already completed an impressive undefeated run through the always-challenging Southeastern Conference and before taking the field against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, it needs to dispatch a rebuilding Georgia Tech squad.

This Georgia defense could be the first since Alabama in 2011 to allow fewer than 10 points per game. Jordan Davis, the 6-foot-6, 340-pound behemoth in the middle of the Bulldogs’ defense doesn’t put up gaudy individual statistics but he allows others around him to thrive.

The teams didn’t meet in 2020 but Georgia has scored 97 points in the last two meetings and another big number could be coming in this one.

Georgia (-150) is the heavy favorite to win the national championship. The Bulldogs sit atop both The Associated Press Top 25 poll and College Football Playoff rankings.

The weather is looking good for this one with a temperature in the 50s and only a slight chance of rain at kickoff time.

The Georgia Bulldogs were listed as 52½-point favorites according to the scores and odds against visiting Charleston Southern. However, the Bulldogs took their foot off the pedal with the game’s outcome no longer in question and scored just once in the second half.

The 56-7 win fell short of covering and it was the third time in the last five games that Georgia failed to cover.

The game went over the 59½-point total on Georgia’s final touchdown late in the third quarter..

Last Game

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were 18-point underdogs according to the sportsbook in the game against the host Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame’s defense scored a pair of touchdowns as the Fighting Irish rolled to the 55-0 win.

The game went under the 58-point total.

Offensive lineman Kenny Cooper is questionable. Receiver Leo Blackburn and tight end Dylan Deveney are out for the season.

Betting on the Game

George Pickens had 23 catches in the last four games of 2020 so if he can return to the lineup, it would be a boost for the Georgia offense.

Zamir White doesn’t get a ton of touches in the Georgia offense but he is coming off a game where he averaged 21 yards per carry. He teams with James Cook to provide the bulk of the running game for the Bulldogs.

Charlie Thomas leads Georgia Tech with 10 tackles for loss.

Georgia has allowed only six touchdowns in 22 trips to the red zone by the opposing offense, the best mark in the country.

Georgia Tech has allowed 107 points and 1,094 yards of offense in two games this season against ranked teams. The Yellow Jackets have been held under 200 passing yards in each of the last four games but will likely need to air it out early and often as Georgia ranks second to only Wisconsin in rushing defense among FBS teams.

Georgia has covered according to the college football odds in its last 11 games played at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has covered only once in the last six games and is 1-5 against the spread in its last six home games.

The Bulldogs have failed to cover in four of the last five games while favored by more than 20 points. It won’t be a surprise to see key players pulled early in this one if the Bulldogs jump on top early since there is a game against Alabama for the SEC title on deck for Georgia.
