Mississippi State Mourns Death of Football Coach Mike Leach
Mississippi State and all of college football are mourning the death of Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach.
Leach, one of the most colorful and charismatic coaches in the sport, died from complications of a heart ailment on Monday night, the school announced. He was 61.
Leach suffered a “personal health issue” at his home on Sunday and was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, about 125 miles from Mississippi State.
This was the third season at Mississippi State for Leach. He was 19-17 overall with the Bulldogs, who earned a bid to the ReliaQuest Bowl against Illinois.
Leach previously coached at Texas Tech and Washington State. He had a career record of 158-107 in 21 seasons as a head coach.

Leach is survived by his wife, Sharon; children Janeen, Kim, Cody, and Kiersten; and three grandchildren.
