With so many college football games on the schedule for Week 10, finding the right game to bet on can be a challenge. Making a moneyline bet is one way to go, but the best option is betting on a team to cover the spread.
When looking at all of the against the spread (ATS) options in Week 10, there is one game that sticks out. The Michigan State Spartans travel to Purdue for a matchup with the Boilermakers and they are slim three-point sportsbook favorites according to the NCAA odds at BetUS.
Michigan State Spartans at Purdue Boilermakers
Michigan State enters Week 10 with a perfect 8-0 record and the Spartans are the ranked third in the first College Football Playoff ranking. The Spartans just knocked off then-No. 6 Michigan in a thrilling game and they will be trying to avoid a letdown on Saturday.
Purdue comes into this game at 5-3, but it has already slayed a top-five team. The Boilermakers defeated Iowa just three weeks ago, and they also knocked off Nebraska last week to give them some momentum.
The Big Ten Conference continues to be one of the most competitive college football leagues in the country and there are surprising results each week. This spread, though, is not giving Michigan State enough respect and is giving Purdue too much credit.
Walker Running Over Opponents
Michigan State enters Saturday averaging 200 rushing yards per game, and Kenneth Walker III has been running over opponents. Walker has rushed for 1,194 yards and 14 touchdowns and this should be another big day.
The Spartans are averaging 34 points per game, but they can also win games with the defense. Michigan State is holding opponents to just 21 points per game, and that unit should put up a very low number in this one.
There is a reason that the Spartans are a perfect 8-0, as they have shown that they can win in a number of ways.
Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker after their recent win said, “And so we have not hit our ceiling yet, we still have room for improvement and we have a tough schedule ahead.”
Purdue Struggling to Score
Purdue is averaging less than 23 points and that is going to be a big problem in this game. The Boilermakers hold opponents to just 17 points per game, but it’s going to take points to win on Saturday.
Quarterback Aidan O’Connell has thrown eight interceptions, and Michigan State has been great at taking the ball away. Purdue can’t afford to have any miscues if it is going to pull off this upset at home.
Stopping the run is going to be the biggest challenge for Purdue, and it’s something that it doesn’t always do particularly well.
Spartans Roll Over Boilermakers
Purdue is known for being a tough team to beat in West Lafayette, but there is no way that they should only be three-point underdogs. Michigan State has proven to be one of the best teams in the country, and the Spartans shouldn’t have much trouble in this game.
The Spartans will be able to build an early lead in this game and then they will just ride on the back of Walker to another win. Michigan State is significantly more talented on both sides of the ball and it will easily cover the spread if we go by the expected scores and odds.
