  • Clemson is looking to win its first national title since the 2018 season.
  • The Tigers could be underdogs in each of their CFP games.

ACC Champions Open On the Road

Clemson figured to be on the outside looking in as the Miami Hurricanes needed to win just two of its final three games in the regular season against Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Syracuse to set up a matchup with SMU in the ACC title game With Clemson needing to win the ACC championship to get in the field, it did not look good for the Tigers.

However, Miami stumbled twice and then Clemson won the ACC on a 56-yard field goal to set into the College Football Playoff field. College football betting odds have the Tigers as the 11-point underdog on the road against Texas.

Clemson has the longest shot at +6000 in the odds to win the NCAAF national championship. However, the Tigers could deliver for those who want to ride with the underdog.

4 Reasons to Bet on Clemson to Win the National Title

1. Dabo Has Been There, Done That

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney joins Kirby Smart as the only head coach in the 2024 College Football Playoff field with two CFP titles to his credit. His team will open up against a Texas team that lost its only other CFP game.

Clemson has experience at running back with senior Phil Mafah in his fourth season and at quarterback as Cade Klubnik is in his third season as a starter.

Two of the top four tacklers are seniors so there is some experience on both sides of the ball. That can be a big deal at this time of the year and could factor into NCAAF picks and predictions. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney took plenty of heat for Clemson being the only team from a Power-4 conference not to add a transfer in the offseason. He could get the last laugh.

2. Tigers Have a Talented Offensive Team

Clemson is in the top four in the ACC in total offense and scoring offense so the Tigers should be able to move the ball in the CFP. They led the ACC in turnover margin with 25 takeaways and just nine giveaways.

The Tigers have come away with points in 43 of 49 drives that reached the red zone and anybody who saw the ACC title game knows that freshman kicker Nolan Hauser can deliver in the clutch.

If there is a concern, it comes on the defensive side of the ball. The Tigers are in the middle of the pack among ACC teams in many defensive categories. No ACC team allowed more plays from scrimmage of at least 20 yards than the Tigers. That is a cause for concern going up against Texas. Keep that in mind when making NCAA football betting picks.

3. Playoff Games Are Won in the Trenches

Clemson had three offensive linemen and two defensive linemen land on the first, second or third All-ACC teams so getting strong play up front could be a key as the Tigers should be the underdog in the rest of their games this season.

The Tigers would love to have some time-consuming drives and if they can hang around, the home fans in Austin might get a bit nervous.

The ACC is not viewed by NCAAF betting fans as strong as the Big Ten or the SEC these days, but Clemson is still a conference champion and can’t be taken lightly.

4. Tigers Know How to Roar on the Road

Clemson heads into the first-round game against Texas with a 4-0 record on the road this season. Playing Florida State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh on the road may be a little different than a game in Austin against the Texas Longhorns. However, this Clemson team knows the feeling of breaking the hearts of the home crowd and would love to do it again.

The game against Texas will be the only road game for Clemson in the College Football Playoff playoffs as the rest of the games are at predetermined sites.
