We are heading into another pivotal week of college football betting as there will be a ton of rivalry games across country – including the MAC. One of the biggest matchups that is on everybody’s radar this week is the battle between the Kent State Golden Flashes and the Miami-OH RedHawks. We will start there in this week’s MAC rundown as we take a tour of the online betting lines.
Kent State Golden Flashes vs Miami-OH RedHawks
College Football Odds: Kent State -3.5
Kent State walks into this matchup at 3-1 while Miami-OH is currently 2-1. The Golden Flashes are being led by quarterback Dustin Crum as he has thrown for 1,181 yards, 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions. Their passing game has definitely helped out their rushing attack as they average 283 rushing yards per game.
The same can’t be said for the RedHawks as they only average 127 rushing yards per game. Their passing attack hasn’t been wonderful either but they have limited their interceptions which has helped them out tremendously. The Golden Flashes have been really impressive all season long on both sides of the ball while the RedHawks haven’t been able to get firing on all cylinders on the offensive side of the ball. This will definitely be the game to watch this week, but Kent State should take home a much-needed victory here.
Pick: Kent State -3.5
Toledo Rockets vs Northern Illinois Huskies
College Football Odds: Toledo -9.5
The 0-4 Northern Illinois Huskies will be facing off against the 2-2 Toledo Rockets in this clash at Brigham Field. Toledo lost a heartbreaker last week against the Ball State Cardinals, losing 27-24 while the Huskies haven’t been able to win a game this season. Toledo has struggled on the offensive side of the football but haven’t been terrible by any stretch of the imagination. They average 36.3 points per game while holding their opponents to only 24.8 points per game.
Sadly for Northern Illinois, they are allowing 37.5 points per game to their opponents while only being able to put up 23 points per game on offense. Their offense is led by quarterback Ross Bowers who has played well enough to win games this season with 871 yards, five touchdowns and only two interceptions. Ultimately, the Huskies have been improving as this season has gone on, but they will need a big improvement on each side of the ball in order to take down a decent Toledo team that isn’t among the best in the conference.
Pick: Toledo -9.5
Bowling Green Falcons vs Akron Zips
Sportsbook Odds: Akron -2.5
Bowling Green is currently 0-4 on the year after their losses to Buffalo, Ohio, Toledo and Kent State so far this season. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking much brighter for the Akron Zips as they are also 0-4 on the year. One of the biggest issues for Bowling Green has been their inability to keep any game close, getting blown out in each of their losses while the same goes for Akron. Neither of these teams really have anything going for them in this matchup so it will be interesting to see how each of these schools handle this matchup.
As for the pick, it could go either way, but the Akron Zips have looked slightly better than Bowling Green has this season and should squeak out a narrow victory.
Pick: Akron -2.5
Eastern Michigan Eagles vs Western Michigan Broncos
College Football Odds: Western Michigan -13.5
The Eastern Michigan Eagles sit at 0-4 on the year and haven’t had much success at all this season. Their quarterback Preston Hutchinson has been able to throw for 1,100 yards, seven touchdowns but six interceptions. They now head over to face off against the Western Michigan Broncos who happen to be on the other end of the spectrum with a 4-0 record. They have been looking really good so far this season behind Kaleb Eleby as he has 1,138 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and only one interception this year.
This bodes well for Western Michigan as the Eagles have been terrible on the defensive side of the ball, which could leave a ton of open passing lanes for Eleby to rip through. This explosive Broncos offense should be able to pile up the points against a ragged Eagles defense.
Pick: Western Michigan -13.5
Buffalo Bulls vs Ohio Bobcats
College Football Odds: Buffalo -11
This is one of the most interesting matchups of the week as the undefeated Buffalo Bulls squad takes on a 2-1 Ohio Bobcats team. Buffalo has been one of the more dominant teams in the league behind the 50.8 points per game they are averaging on the offense. Much of that explosion is due to running back Jaret Patterson who had a prolific game last week, totaling 409 yards and eight touchdowns on 36 carries.
Meanwhile, Ohio was unable to defeat Central Michigan in their first game but has since beaten the two worst teams in the MAC in Bowling Green and Akron. This game has the potential to be close, but Buffalo has been far too dominant on offense while Ohio hasn’t proven themselves against strong competition just yet.
Pick: Buffalo -11
Ball State Cardinals vs Central Michigan Chippewas
College Football Odds: Central Michigan -1.5
Ball State is boasting a three-game winning streak after a big 27-24 victory over the Toledo Rockets. They have a solid offense overall with running back Caleb Huntley rushing for 437 yards and six touchdowns. For Central Michigan, they are 3-1 on the year after a huge win over Eastern Michigan. The Chippewas have gotten a ton of success with all of their running backs so far this season, with Kobe Lewis rushing for 391 yards, Lew Nichols III going for 337 and Kalil Pimpleton running for 138 yards.
Each of these teams are coming into this game with momentum and the game is definitely going to come down to the wire. Ball State just seems to be in an overall better position coming into this game and should be able to cover the spread here.
Pick: Ball State +1.5
