New College Football Coaches in Great Situations
Every year after the college football season concludes, a new round of the coaching carousel begins as underperforming teams look to make a change at head coach.
With each new hire comes speculation on how the head coach will do in their new position, but some coaches are set up for greater success than others. Ahead are five new college football coaches who are heading into a great situation in their new gig.

Luke Fickell, Wisconsin
Fickell’s success at Cincinnati was big in college football news, and now he will hope to return the Badgers to that same level of success it had before the last few seasons. Fickell did well recruiting in the portal, and Wisconsin also returns eight starters from a defense that allowed 20.5 points a game last season. With running back Braelon Allen still leading the offense, Fickell should help bring Wisconsin back to the top of the Big Ten West.
Jeff Brohm, Louisville
Landing a job at his alma mater after spending time as Purdue’s head coach, Brohm gets a fairly favorable schedule in his first year. Though Louisville returns nine starters, Brohm secured some top transfers in the portal, including quarterback Jack Plummer. Brohm’s passing attack should also work well in the ACC.
Tom Herman, Florida Atlantic
Herman didn’t exactly impress in his final years at Texas, but he has the chance to strengthen his coaching record once again at a Group of Five school in Florida Atlantic. The Owls are making a move to the AAC, and Herman’s activity in the portal, landing quarterback Casey Thomspon, among others, should pair well with seven returning starters on defense to get out to a solid start in the new conference.

Eric Morris, North Texas
Another school moving to the American Athletic Conference, Morris is joining a team that returns 15 starters. Though the Mean Green’s defense struggled last season allowing 31.7 points a game, the defense returns seven starters. Morris’ knowledge of the Air Raid should also make North Texas’ offense a threat in the new conference.
Jamey Chadwell, Liberty
After leading Coastal Carolina to three straight successful seasons, Chadwell is hoping to bring that winning formula to Liberty. Though the Flames return six starters from last season’s team, they join Conference USA as the second favorite to win, according to college football picks. Chadwell should bring a high-scoring offense to Liberty after Coastal led the Sun Belt in scoring two of the three years, while his familiarity with the area should also help him in recruitingl.
