Top Picks for ACC Win Totals

Last season, the ACC did not have a team make the College Football Playoffs. This season, some NCAA football odds might be able to change that. Clemson and Florida State are primed to have great seasons and are the favorites to make it to the ACC Championship Game.

Outside of them, there are a lot of other teams in play for over/under win totals. There are decent options out of the ACC in college football lines of teams that could over or underperform, making them solid choices for betting.

Clemson Over 10 Wins (-110)

It is hard not to side with Clemson on a 10-win over. The Tigers have dominated the ACC since 2015, winning seven of the last eight conference championships. The Tigers are favored to win the conference again in college football odds, at +140.

Last season, Clemson went 11-3, which included a surprising loss to South Carolina. For the most part, the Tigers had complete control of their season and are set to do so again.

The only question would be around the starting quarterback. Cade Klubnik only started one game last season. In a bowl game loss to Tennessee, he threw for 320 yards on 54 attempts without a touchdown and two interceptions.

A lot of this bet will depend on how he performs at the start of the season, and if Klubnik struggles, can he improve? In the early part of the season, Clemon’s defense and running back Will Shipley should keep the team on a winning path. But when conference play starts on Sept. 23 against Florida State, that will be the first real test for Klubnik.

Florida State Over 10 Wins (+115)

This has a chance to be a big season for the Seminoles. Last year’s leader in passer rating, Jordan Travis, is returning along with running back Trey Benson, who exploded at the end of the season. On defense, most of the crucial players from the last season are back with the team, which should lead to another solid defensive year.

Florida State has all the pieces to win 10 games this season, and likely even more. The Seminoles reached that number last season, going 10-3, leading to higher expectations. The Seminoles have the second best odds to win the ACC and are my college football pick to win the conference at +160.

On top of that, Florida State has a pretty light schedule. Outside of facing LSU and Clemson in September, which could be two early losses, the Seminoles should be favored in all other conference games.

North Carolina Over 8 Wins (-130)

North Carolina had a surprising rise last season, finishing 9-5. The Tar Heels appear on the verge of having another successful season in 2023.

After a great start to the season, with a 9-1 record, North Carolina lost its final four games. The Tar Heels were favored in two of those matchups and gave Oregon a tough challenge in a bowl game, losing 28-27.

Most of the success from last season fell on the shoulders of quarterback Drake Maye, who led the ACC in passing yards and tied for the most in touchdowns. Despite his struggles in the last four games, Maye should be able to lead North Carolina to another solid season and more than eight wins.

Wake Forest Under 6½ Wins (-125)

Over the last few seasons, Wake Forest has been a steady overachiever. However, a big reason for that has been quarterback Sam Hartman. He threw for 7,929 yards and 77 touchdowns over the last two seasons, leading the Demon Deacons to an ACC Championship Game and two bowl wins.

Now that Hartman has transferred to Notre Dame, Wake Forest seems primed to have a drop-off.

Duke Under 6½ Wins (-150)

The 2022 season worked out perfectly for Duke to have success. The Blue Devils never had to play a team that was currently ranked in the AP Top 25. That helped the Blue Devils get to a 9-4 record, capped off by surprising UCF to win a bowl game.

Quarterback Riley Leonard had a great season as the offense’s focal point, throwing for 2,967 yards and rushing for 699. However, after one season of success, the rest of the ACC will be much more locked in on him.

Furthermore, after not facing an AP Top 25 team last season, Duke starts the season against Clemson while Notre Dame, Florida State, Louisville and North Carolina are all on the schedule. That schedule has a chance of flipping the Blue Devils’ fortunes in 2023.

Miami Under 7½ Wins -120

Miami hitting the under is more of a product of the top talent in the ACC. Despite an excellent defense and the promise of quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, the Hurricanes are still behind Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and even Louisville within the ACC.

All four schools will be on Miami’s schedule, along with Texas A&M, which looks ready to make noise in the SEC. That puts the Hurricanes at a disadvantage that they just won’t be able to overcome.
