It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Holidays? No, bowl season. Check out all the Tulane Green Wave vs Nevada Wolf Pack betting news.
College football games almost every day of the week, giving us plenty of online betting opportunities. Another chance comes on Tuesday when the Tulane Green Wave takes on the Nevada Wolf Pack in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Id.
Tulane (6-5) started slowly, going 2-4 in its first six contests. But the Green Wave have turned it around, winning four of their last five, with the only loss being a double-overtime setback at No. 25 Tulsa. Tulane is coming off a 35-21 victory over Memphis on Dec. 5.
Nevada (6-2) had just the opposite type of season, reeling off five victories in its first five games before dropping two of its last three. The Wolf Pack lost at home to San Jose State in their last game on Dec. 11.
Tulane is a 2½-point favorite, with the over/under set at 57.
Going For Three
Tulane is in a bowl game for the third straight season, having won the Cure Bowl in 2018 over Louisiana and the Armed Forces Bowl in 2019 over Southern Miss. The Green Wave have never won three straight bowl games, which may be worth remembering when making your college football picks.
True freshman quarterback Michael Pratt leads the offensive attack, throwing for 1,638 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine games. Pratt also rushed for 204 yards and seven scores after taking over the starting job in the fourth game.
The Green Wave has a solid 1-2 punch when running the ball, with senior running back Stephon Huderson (118 carries, 721 yards, four touchdowns) and sophomore running back Cameron Carroll (112 carries, 621 yards, 11 touchdowns) splitting the carries. Tulane had the second-best rushing offense in the American Athletic Conference, averaging 217.7 yards per game.
Defensively, the Green Wave finished the regular season tied for third nationally and ranked first in the AAC as a team with 36.0 sacks on the year. Senior defensive end Patrick Johnson leads the way with 10 sacks among his 14.5 tackles for loss, while senior defensive end Cameron Sample has added five sacks. Sophomore linebacker Dorian Williams leads the team with 84 tackles, is tied for the lead with 14.5 tackles for loss and has 4.5 sacks.
Back For More
Nevada is playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the second straight season — but in the same calendar year. The Wolf Pack lost to Ohio on Jan. 3, in their first appearance in the bowl. This is the third straight season Nevada has been to a bowl game.
Sophomore quarterback Carson Strong has been the catalyst of the Nevada offense, throwing for 2,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season. His main target is junior wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who has 53 catches for 960 yards and nine touchdowns. Junior tight end Cole Turner is another favorite target with 44 receptions for 545 yards and seven scores.
When the Wolf Pack go to the ground game, junior running back Toa Taua has been the main ball carrier, rushing for 573 yards and three touchdowns. But with the 10th-ranked passing offense in college football, Nevada is more apt to try to air it out.
Senior linebacker Lawson Hall and junior safety Tyson Williams lead the Wolf Pack with 56 and 53 tackles, respectively. Hall also has 6.5 tackles for loss, while Williams has a forced fumble and two interceptions.
High-Scoring Battle
These teams can put some points on the board. Tulane has scored 30 or more points in eight of its last nine games, while Nevada has topped the 30-point mark four times this season and has yet to score fewer than 20 points in a contest.
Nevada has played on this field before and has a quarterback that has played in a bowl game before as well. There isn’t much of an edge to be had between these teams, so we’ll buck the college football odds and go with the Wolf Pack for those reasons.
As far as the over/under, go with the over. These teams both give up at least 375 yards of offense per game, so this one could be full of scoring.
