Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Next game: at Army
The Demon Deacons are coming off a bye week following a 40-37 overtime win over Syracuse on Oct. 9. Sam Hartman found A.T. Perry for a 22-yard touchdown in the extra session to keep the Demon Deacons perfect on the season.
Hartman threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns, which came in a back-and-forth game that saw both teams scoring in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter to bring on overtime. Perry had three catches for 137 yards, with all three receptions going for touchdowns. Jaquarii Roberson finished with nine catches for 135 yards.
The Wake Forest defense allowed 514 yards of total offense to the Orange, including 354 yards on the ground. But when the Demon Deacons needed a stop the most, the defense held Syracuse to just a field goal in overtime, setting up the game-winning touchdown.
For the second straight game, the Demon Deacons won a close game, failing to cover the point spread. Wake Forest is just 2-4 against the spread , going 1- on the road.
Army Black Knights
Next game: vs Air Force
The Black Knights played a tight game with Wisconsin but ended up falling to the Badgers 20-14. Wisconsin held a 13-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but two Army touchdowns in the final stanza made the game close.
Tyhier Tyler led the Army running attack, carrying the ball 17 times for 90 yards and a touchdown. Tyrell Robinson added 45 yards on six carries, but the Black Knights were held to just 179 yards rushing as a team.
Quarterback Jabari Laws was 5 of 6 for 87 yards, but it wasn’t enough to lead Army to the win.
Army was able to stay within the 10-point line to improve to 3-3 against the spread. The Black Knights are 3-0 at home but failed to cover the spread twice.
Quarterback Christian Anderson has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury and his status is uncertain. Anderson has a team-high 431 rushing yards and five touchdowns despite missing time with the injury.
Betting on the Game
The Demon Deacons allowed 354 yards on the ground to Syracuse and now they face the second-best rushing team in the nation in Army, which is averaging 295 yards on the ground. If Wake Forest is going to stay undefeated, it must tighten up its rushing defense, which allows 173 yards per game.
The last two games for Wake Forest have been tight ones, with an overtime win over Syracuse following a three-point win over Louisville. Having a week off should revitalize the Demon Deacons, however, so the three-point spread shouldn’t be hard to cover. The spread opened at 3½ points but has moved a half-point after early betting.
Wake Forest hasn’t exactly been great defensively, and if Army has Anderson back in the lineup, this could be a high-scoring contest. The over of 52½ should be easy to reach for these two teams, who each average over 30 points, and is definitely a bet you should make when you make your college football picks.
