Western Michigan Broncos at Eastern Michigan Eagles: Betting Guide

The Mid-American Conference is tightly bunched. Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan are both 6-4 overall. They have achieved bowl eligibility, but not all bowl-eligible teams get a bowl bid in every season.

One more win would solidify bowl positioning and make certain that the winner gets a bowl game.

The last meeting between these two teams was last year. Eastern Michigan won a crazy and high-scoring affair, 53-42.

Western Michigan Broncos

Next game: at Northern Illinois

Last Game

The Broncos won a wild 45-40 game over Akron. Nearly every game in the MAC this season seems like a wild and crazy game with no rhyme or reason, but this was another entry into the books.

Western Michigan led 38-24 with 13:30 left in regulation against an Akron team that entered the game with a 2-7 record. The Broncos seemed to be in complete control.

Then, as has happened often in the MAC this year, a wild swing in momentum and game flow occurred. The Zips scored 16 straight points to take a 40-38 lead with 2:20 left. Akron missed an extra point but still took the lead with two touchdowns and a field goal against the stunned Broncos, who had to regroup.

That’s exactly what they did.

Quarterback Kaleb Eleby hit receiver Corey Crooms on a 45-yard touchdown strike with exactly one minute left to carry WMU to a relief-producing victory.

The Broncos achieved bowl eligibility but, as noted above, a seventh win would move them into safe bowl territory and not leave them in possible limbo if there are a lot of SEC or Big Ten teams with 6-6 records who would get priority for a bowl bid ahead of the Broncos.

If you bet online, the Broncos are 4-5-1 against the spread in the sportsbook and 5-5 in over-unders.

Injury Report

The Broncos have a clean injury report for this game, so nothing here will impact the NCAA odds.

Eastern Michigan Eagles

Next game: vs. Central Michigan

Last Game

The Eagles lost to Ohio, 34-26. The Eastern Michigan defensive line fell apart in this game, allowing 265 rushing yards to the Bobcats’ offense.

EMU has to get a sturdier, more resolute performance from its defensive line. Otherwise, Western Michigan has the offensive firepower that can blow right by the Eagles.

The Eagles are 4-5 against the spread and 5-4 in over-unders this season. One of their games was against an FCS opponent and was therefore not assigned a betting line. It is not counted in this tally.

Injury Report

The Eagles have only one injury for this game and nothing major that will impact college football picks. Tight end Bryson Cannon is listed as questionable.

Betting on the Game

This is a pick-your-score kind of game.

Expect a ton of points, but ultimately, the Western Michigan offensive line should be able to dictate the flow of play against Eastern Michigan’s weak defensive line. That will probably be the difference.

Final Score: Western Michigan 45, Eastern Michigan 38
