Arkansas Razorbacks

Arkansas will likely welcome back starting quarterback K.J. Jefferson, who missed Week 6 against Mississippi State because of a head injury. This would be a massive boon for the Razorbacks after Malik Hornsby went 8-for-17 with two interceptions and a touchdown last week. Jefferson threw for 1,096 yards, nine touchdowns, and just one interception in the first five games. He added four rushing touchdowns and 312 yards on the ground.

If Jefferson doesn’t return this week, or has some rust to shake off, Arkansas could be in trouble. That is because the Razorbacks’ defense ranks 92nd in points and 112th in yards per game allowed. Their passing defense is feeble, with an average of 8.6 yards allowed per pass and nearly 300 yards per game.

BYU Cougars

The Cougars enter Week 7 with a 3-0 record at home, with their two losses coming to ranked teams on the road. The Cougars won two of those games by more than 20 points. BYU has just two defeats in its last 20 home games, with many ranked teams suffering upsets in Provo. Just ask the Baylor Bears, Utah Utes, and Arizona State. One issue for visitors is the altitude of over 4,600 feet.

Quarterback Jaren Hall has posted very impressive numbers. Hall ranks 29th in the nation in passing yards (1,558), 17th in passing touchdowns (14), and 24th in interceptions (2) through six weeks. Hall is coming off a brutal game against the Irish and will be champing at the bit to return to success in Week 7.

Meanwhile, BYU’s rushing game ranks 19th in yards per rush and averages more than 150 yards per game. So, if Hall struggles again, the ground game has the chops to keep the Cougars in this game.

Arkansas vs BYU Prediction

This game feels like a gift with the Cougars giving just one point. The combination of consistent QB play, a good rushing game and a home-field advantage gives BYU several key advantages in this game. There is a good chance that Arkansas’s passing defense gets torched again, allowing this game to slip away early.
