Army Best Bet to Ground Navy

Army is looking for back-to-back wins against its top rival while the Navy Midshipmen lead the all-time series 62-54-7. Army can win the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy thanks to a 23-3 win over Air Force.

This is the first time that this game will be played in New England as the teams will meet at the home field of the New England Patriots.

Running back Kayne Udoh (436 rushing yards) is questionable while receiver Isaiah Alston (nine catches, 266 yards in four games) and receiver Alex Meredith are out for Army.

For Navy, Xavier Arline is expected to play, but quarterback Tai Lavatai and receivers Nathan Kent (4 catches), Camari Williams, Jayden Umbarger, and Regis Velez (3 catches) are questionable.

Army came into the season with –110 odds to finish under six regular-season wins.

When looking at the college football odds, the last three games between Army and Navy had totals under 30. However, the current total of 27½ is the lowest dating back to 1995.

Will the Daily Show Play to Rave Review?

This will be the first time since 2010 that both Army and Navy will finish outside the top five nationally in rushing offense.

It is not due to a lack of chances.

Army is third nationally in rushing attempts but just 10th in rushing yards.

There is a chance that Toledo, New Mexico State or Tennessee could move ahead of Army in rushing yards per game. If that happens, it would be a rare occasion when both the Black Knights and Midshipmen finish outside the top 10.

Army has averaged 4.97 yards per carry and 260.6 rushing yards in the five wins compared to 3.73 yards per carry and 164.7 yards on the ground in the six losses.

Quarterback Bryson Daily is the first player for Army with more than 800 yards both rushing and passing in the same season since Kelvin Hopkins in 2018.

Daily has rushed for 817 yards and thrown for 859 this season. He did not play in last year’s Army-Navy game.

Army has covered against the Las Vegas College Football odds in just two of its last seven games.

In the six games that Navy lost, the Midshipmen allowed 418 yards and 6.66 yards per play.

In its most recent game, the Navy surrendered 59 points to American Athletic Conference champion Southern Methodist.

In the five victories, the opponents had just eight drives to reach the red zone and only three of those resulted in points.

In the six losses, 23 drives into the red zone ended with 18 touchdowns and one field goal.

Navy has allowed seven plays from scrimmage of at least 60 yards, the most since the 2016 season.

That could result in this game being the first one in the series to land over the total without the aid of overtime since 2005, even though five of Navy’s last seven games finished under the college football odds total.

College Football Pick: Army-Navy game to go over 27½ points.

Get Ready to Crown the Black Knights

Both the Midshipmen and Black Knights have had better seasons than what has transpired in 2023. However, a win in the biggest game of the year will help to ease much of the disappointment.

Nine of the last 12 games between the Midshipmen and Black Knights finished as one-score affairs and that includes both the 2021 and 2022 matchups.

Navy is just 4-7 this season against the college football spread and 2-3 when listed as the underdog. Army wasn’t much better at 4-6-1, with the Black Knights covering in just one of five games as the favorite.

With the defensive struggles by Navy, don’t be surprised to see Army top Navy once again.
