For several reasons, this matchup between No.25 Army (8-0, 6-0 AAC) and North Texas (5-3, 2-2) will be extremely interesting for college football predictions. One of those is that these teams are the exact opposite on offense, with Army being a running powerhouse while North Texas is great through the air.

Last week, Army picked up a big win for the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy, beating Air Force 20-3. The Black Knights won that game without their starting quarterback while still playing great defense and running the ball well.

In the Mean Green’s last game, they went up against Tulane but lost 45-37. The passing offense still looked good, but North Texas struggled in other aspects on the field.

Army vs North Texas Betting Preview

Running Game Makes Black Knights the Pick

If there is any time to start taking Army seriously, now is that time. The Black Knights are undefeated through eight games and are looking good. Per Army vs North Texas stats, the Black Knights have the best rushing attack in the nation and are among the top defenses. That is a big reason why Army is ranked and favored to win this week.

Let’s start with Amry’s offense, which heavily relies on the running game. The Black Knights are No. 1 nationally in rushing yards per game, averaging 340.1, while the second-place team is far back at 272.3. The military schools always lean on the running attack, so this is no surprise.

However, what is surprising is that last week, college football news was headlined by starting quarterback Bryson Daily’s not playing against Air Force. He is listed as questionable for this week.

Daily is leading the team in rushing yards (909) and touchdowns (19) while also throwing a pass here and there. In Army’s win over Air Force, second-leading rusher Kanye Udoh stepped up to have a big game with 158 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

This has become a legitimate offense and, if Daily is on the field, it makes sense to back Army in college football picks. That is only backed up by the Black Knights’ defense. They allow the fewest points per game in the nation at 11.3 and are ranked fifth in yards allowed (272.8). While North Texas’ offense has been terrific, Army’s defense should be able to slow it down.

North Texas Offense Makes a Push

Another of the biggest reasons this game is so interesting is North Texas’s offense and how it will solve Army’s defense. North Texas averages the third-most yards per game in the country at 527.6, with most coming through the passing game (371.6). That was proven in the loss to Tulane.

That offensive firepower was on display in the loss to Tulane. The Mean Green had 525 yards of offense, including 449 passing the ball and 76 more on the ground. Quarterback Chandler Morris had another big game with 448 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Army, on paper, has been a good defense against the passing game, allowing 188.5 yards per game, the fourth-fewest in the American Athletic Conference. The only issue is that the Black Knights have not faced an offense like this, which could open the door for the Mean Green to help this game hit the over.

North Texas has also hit the over in seven of eight games this season. In addition, the Mean Green could be a better run-stopping team. They allowed 177.4 rushing yards per game and gave up 297 last week. Army is bound to take advantage of that, which leans college football betting towards the over despite the high line.
