They’re Staggering SEC Squads
After losing back-to-back games on the road, the Mississippi St. Bulldogs return to Starkville (Mississippi St.), playing host to the Auburn Tigers Saturday evening. Both teams are reeling halfway through SEC play, but Auburn is in worse shape.
Mississippi St. has certainly struggled mightily, having lost its last two games by double-digits. Auburn’s lost four in a row, firing coach Bryan Harsin. The Bulldogs can make a good bowl game. Auburn will look to dent those dreams.

Let’s check the latest college football odds, stats, injury reports, and college football lines for Auburn vs Mississippi St. We’ve plenty of NCAA football odds for you to consider.
Auburn Moves on From Coach
With a 9-12 record, Harsin’s two-season stint was a failed tenure. Auburn will be a coveted job in the offseason. Hugh Freeze, Lane Kiffin, and Deion Sanders are a few names figuring to get some consideration. The Tigers have to work with what they have at the moment.
Carnell “Cadillac” Williams was named interim coach. He was an All-American running back with Auburn back in 2004 and was selected No. 5 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2005 draft. Williams has been Auburn’s running back coach for the past two seasons, getting a huge opportunity with what’s left of this season.
Auburn has been absolutely torched on the ground over the last two. In the 48-34 loss to Ole Miss, the Tigers yielded 448 rushing yards (6½ yards per carry). Against Arkansas, Auburn allowed 286 rush yards (six yards per carry). A putrid run defense ranking 128th (of 131 teams) in rushing yards allowed per game (234,7).
Offensively, running back Tank Bigsby needs to see more of the ball. He is the unit’s best player by far. The Tiger quarterback play has been problematic, though. Bigsby hasn’t received consistent touches at any point this season. Now’s the time to change that.

Bulldogs Needs Balance
So, under coach Mike Leach, Mississippi St. always features an air raid offense. Quarterback Will Rogers started the season blistering hot as did the then- 5-1 Bulldogs. The last two games have seen the offense struggling to finish drives.
Several stalled red-zone chances against Alabama, and stumbling in Kentucky’s territory on more than one occasion. Frequent fourth-down failures have also plagued Mississippi St. The Bulldogs rank 28th with a 61.9% fourth-down conversion rate, but just four-of-eight during the two-game losing skid.
How to solve its issues? Become a more balanced group with the ball. Mississippi St. throws the ball 68.03% of plays, leading the country. That did continue against Alabama and Kentucky and struggles in the run game (2.3 yards per carry). The Bulldogs should keep it on the ground more against Auburn’s horrendous rush defense.

Mississippi St gets a ‘favorable draw this week. The Bulldogs are in need of more balance on offense. If they can make defenses respect the run, the passing game only gets better. Auburn has one of the NCAA’s worst defenses. Mississippi St. finds that balance, winning and covering.
