2 Key Betting Factors: Auburn Struggles, Missouri’s Strong Home Advantage

1. Why the Support for Road Team?

We are trying to find reasons why Auburn is only a +4 underdog with college football lines. However, most of the early money has come for Missouri to cover the spread.

Auburn has lost its last three games against Arkansas, Oklahoma and Georgia. Those games were always going to be tough, but the Auburn Tigers put up no fight when losing 31-13 to the Bulldogs two weeks ago.

Having had a bye week could help, but playing on the road doesn’t help and Auburn is 0-3 in SEC play. It’s hard to find too many positives for the team. Which once was a college football powerhouse but is struggling to find its identity.

The +4 line has drifted to -105 since markets opened, and we’re not surprised. The line could move to +5 on game day, and covering the spread will require much better play from quarterback Payton Thorne, who has 10 touchdowns but six costly interceptions.

He needs to be much better to give Auburn a chance, but we can’t see it happening.

2. Missouri Back from Misery

Losing 41-10 to the Texas A&m Aggies threatened to derail Missouri’s season, but it bounced back with a quality 45-3 win over UMass last week.

It was a much-needed win for this team, which is hanging onto a ranking, but the Tigers have shown their ability. They defeated Vanderbilt 30-27 in double overtime before the Commodores scored an upset win over Alabama.

It’s that win which makes us include Missouri Tigers in our expert betting picks, especially at the -4 line. We would have been prepared to take the nation’s No. 19 team at a much bigger line, and it could improve to 2-1 in conference play.

Coach Eliah Drinkwitz was pleased with the way his team responded from its first loss.

I talked all week about responding and there were a lot of ways this could have gone,” Drinkwitz said after the rout of UMass. “They fought back and responded and I thought they played team football today. We have got to be a team that dominates non-conference competition.

With confidence levels once again rising, Missouri should be tough to beat. It gets home field advantage and that should be enough to get past the visiting Auburn.

ATS Best Bet: Missouri to Cover the Spread

Getting a -4 line in online betting is too good to be true, so we’re playing Missouri to cover the spread.

It has the class advantage against a four-loss team in Auburn, and playing on the road won’t help Auburn’s chances of breaking a three-game losing streak.

Bet on Missouri -4 (-115)

It could be a back-and-forth scoring affair in the first half before Missouri pulls away in the second half. We see plenty of touchdowns being scored, so we’re backing over 51½ and including it in our NCAAF predictions.

There is enough firepower with Auburn and Missouri to cover the number with ease.
