Back Ole Miss vs Mississippi State in Egg Bowl

The No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs will meet once again in the Egg Bowl on Thursday. Both teams will be looking to finish their regular seasons strong as the Rebels will be pushing for a 10-win season and a New Year’s Six Bowl while the Bulldogs will be hoping to earn a bowl game altogether.

Mississippi State won the last Egg Bowl, but college football spreads have Ole Miss favored this time around.

Ole Miss Leans on Offense

The Rebels bounced back from a loss to Georgia with a better game offensively against Louisiana-Monroe.

After finishing with 17 points against the Bulldogs, Ole Miss picked up its sixth win in seven games after scoring 35 points from nearly 500 total yards of offense, with 371 of those 498 total yards coming through the air.

The Rebels were led by another strong effort from quarterback Jaxson Dart, who finished with 310 passing yards and three touchdowns in their win over the Warhawks. His play has helped the Rebels average 293 passing yards, good for fourth in the SEC.

Ole Miss has averaged 30.2 points in its past five games. Behind its passing game, it should be a strong NCAA football pick against Mississippi State as well.

Mississippi State Looks to the Run

After four straight games in which their offense was lacking, the Bulldogs turned things around against Southern Miss.

Mississippi State scored under 15 points in its prior four games, averaging 8.3 points in that time and losing three consecutive games, but it put an end to that losing streak with a bounce-back performance against the Golden Eagles.

The Bulldogs had one of their highest-scoring games of the season, finishing with 41 points and 382 total yards behind a 238-yard performance on the ground. Running back Jeffrey Pittman led the way with 98 yards on 9.8 yards per rush and a touchdown.

Mississippi State will look to build off its offensive performance on Thursday, but against a stronger defense in Ole Miss, bettors may want to see how it starts before looking at live betting odds.

Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Best Bet

Though both teams will be motivated to build on their victories and get the rivalry win, the sportsbook has Ole Miss as a solid favorite on the road, with NCAA football spreads favoring the Rebels by 11 points.

Despite the double-digit spread in the NCAA football odds, the Rebels should be able to cover it due to the strength of their offense. Ole Miss has rode a balanced offensive attack to a nine-win season and it should be a lot for a Mississippi State team to handle after it has allowed an average of 25 points in its last five games.

The Bulldogs should also have trouble keeping up with the Rebels. Although their run game is solid and may pose some issues for Ole Miss, quarterback Will Rogers is one game back from injury. Rogers threw for 144 yards while Mississippi State has averaged 179.5 passing yards a game this season.

Mississippi State has won three of the last five meetings between the two, including last season, but Ole Miss should take this one on the road to get its 10th win.
