Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders began the season with Tyler Shough, a transfer from Oregon, as their starting quarterback. He was hurt and Donovan Smith replaced him.
Smith experienced some shoulder soreness and battled ineffectiveness for a period of time, so Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire went to freshman Behren Morton, who has been hugely impressive in his first wave of action.
He was thrown into the fire against Oklahoma State and had a predictably uneven outcome but showed a lot of promise.
Then, this past weekend against West Virginia, Morton thrived in leading the Red Raiders to 48 points in a blowout victory.
McGuire and Texas Tech both have to think they have found their starting quarterback for the rest of the season. If nothing else will be able to give Morton crucial experience which can pay dividends in 2023 and beyond.
