Big Ten Week 13 NCAAF Picks: Take Over in Michigan-Ohio State Game

Northwestern Looks to Defy the Odds Yet Again

There is a rumor that there are seven Big Ten games on the schedule this weekend. However, all of the attention will be on the matchup in Ann Arbor when Ohio State and Michigan square off in a showdown of 11-0 teams with national championship aspirations. The NCAA football predictions are calling for a nip-and-tuck affair between the Wolverines and Buckeyes.

The Big Ten Championship Game picture finally has some clarity with West Division champion Iowa meeting the winner of Saturday’s Michigan-Ohio State game. Illinois, Minnesota and Nebraska come into the final week of the regular season at 5-6, so 11 of the 14 conference teams may be eligible to play in bowl games by the time the final snap is played on Saturday.

Three of the five Big Ten best bets came through in Week 12. The Ohio State-Minnesota game going under the total was the biggest surprise in a week when five of the seven games were decided by eight points or less.

When looking at the college football picks this week, the Penn State-Michigan State game is the only one of the seven matchups with a double-digit point spread.

When looking at the best college football bets today, the Week 13 conference schedule gets underway at noon ET with the Iowa-Nebraska, Penn State-Michigan State and Ohio State-Michigan contests.

Michigan (+275) trails only two-time defending national champion Georgia in the odds to win the national title. Ohio State’s championship odds moved from +800 to +550.

When looking at the college football rankings today, Ohio State jumped Michigan to move into the No. 2 spot in both national polls. Ohio State is second and Michigan third with Penn State coming in at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Here’s a look at some of the best college football bets and NCAA football odds to consider in Week 13.

Look for Plenty of Offense in the Game of the Year

Where do we start on the options for the Ohio State-Michigan game?

With the sign-stealing drama surrounding Michigan and suggestions that Ohio State head coach Ryan Day may be involved in turning the NCAA onto the Wolverines’ misdeed, things might be testier than normal in one of the most heated rivalries in college football.

The teams haven’t played a one-score game since 2016, with Michigan winning by 15 and 22 points in the last two meetings.

Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh (suspension) won’t be coaching in this game but his fingerprints will be all over this game as two of the most talented teams in the country are ready to rumble.

Each of the last nine games between the Buckeyes and Wolverines finished over the Las Vegas odds total. Saturday’s matchup could head in that direction.

Big Ten Week 12 Props: Running Backs in the Spotlight Again

Indiana-Purdue Game to Go Over

Purdue has dropped five of its last six games while Indiana has lost six of the last seven games.

With both teams sitting with 3-8 records, this is all about preparing for the 2024 season.

Both teams would like to have last week’s games back when Indiana lost at home to Michigan State while Purdue fell at Northwestern.

The teams are 13th and 14th out of 14 teams in the Big Ten in total defense. Indiana is the only team in the conference to allow more than 400 yards per game in conference play.

While the offenses aren’t exactly at the level of Ohio State and Michigan, the 53½-point total seems attainable, though the line went up two points in the last day.

College Football Pick: Indiana-Purdue game to go over the 53½-point total.

Iowa’s Beleaguered Offense Could Get Some Help

It speaks volumes about the lack of depth in the Big Ten that an Iowa team that struggles to string back-to-back first downs together will be playing in the Big Ten title game. Of course, that game may not go too well for the Hawkeyes with the winner of the Ohio State-Michigan game being the opponent.

Iowa faces a Nebraska team that leads the Big Ten with 28 giveaways and that could create some opportunities for an opportunistic defense.

Iowa also has a touchdown on special teams so perhaps there will be a non-offensive touchdown in the game against Nebraska.

College Football Pick: There will be a touchdown on defense or special teams in the Iowa-Nebraska game – YES +278

Penn State Could Get Going Early

Points have been scored in the first five minutes in each of the last four Michigan State games.

A closer look at the numbers will show that against the powerhouse programs (Michigan and Ohio State), the Spartans have allowed 28 points in the first quarter.

Penn State has proven to be just a step below the Wolverines and Buckeyes, but there is still the chance for the Nittany Lions to take control of things early on.

College Football Pick: There will be a score in the first seven minutes of the Penn State-Michigan State game – YES -104

Northwestern Ready to Pull Off Another Upset

Northwestern has been the surprise team in the Big Ten. The Wildcats saw veteran head coach Pat Fitzgerald let go before the season began when some hazing allegations surfaced.

After the Wildcats topped Purdue 23-15 to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2020, David Braun became the permanent head coach after serving as the interim head coach and navigating his way through a challenging but rewarding season.

That is not enough for Northwestern to be listed by the college football odds as the favorite in Week 13. While host Illinois has the added incentive of needing to win to join Northwestern among the Big Ten that are bowl-eligible squads, it is worth taking the Wildcats to cover.

College Football Pick: Northwestern to cover against Illinois as 6-point underdogs.

Let’s take a closer look at some college football odds and college football lines worth considering!
