The Notre Dame Fighting Irish try to get back to playing 60 minutes of football as they celebrate Senior Day at home against the Boston College Eagles Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Irish raced to a 35-13 halftime lead against the Navy Midshipmen last -week, but had to hold on after doing next-to-nothing in the second half.
Notre Dame finished the second half with just 12 yards of offense (a single first down), but it gave the Fighting Irish their ourth victory in a row.
“One thing you know about Navy is they will never quit,” coach Marcus Freeman said. “We had to match their urgency throughout the entirety of the game. We did the first half. We did not have the urgency and execution that we needed to finish the game the way we wanted. The lessons you can learn are priceless.”
Meanwhile, freshman quarterback Emmett Morehead led the Eagles to their biggest win of the season last week, rallying against North Carolina St. Morehead likely earned another start, regardless if usual starter Phil Jurkovec is healthy in time for the game.
Morehead threw three touchdown passes in his second start, including two in the final seven minutes as the Eagles clawed out of a 13-point (20-7) hole.
“Our players needed some validation from all that hard work,” coach Jeff Hafley said. “They needed to feel moments like this.” BC ended a streak of 25 straight losses to ranked teams dating back to 2014.

Foskey and special teams
Notre Dame’s Isaiah Foskey has terrorized opposing quarterbacks, 5½ sacks in the last four games to move to within a half-a-sack of Justin Tuck’s school record 24½. Foskey is ninth in the country with 8½ sacks on the season.
There are only three teams in the FBS surrendering more sacks than the Eagles’ 39. Morehead’s been sacked 14 times in just 131 pass attempts (one per 9.35 attempts).
The Fighting Irish haven’t just found quarterbacks this season. They’ve blocked a school record (since 1937) and FBS-best seven punts as well, the most for a Power 5 school since 2008.
Foskey has two of the blocked punts. Bo Bauer, Prince Kollie, Jordan Botelho, Clarence Lewis and Jack Kiser have one each. Notre Dame has six touchdowns and one field goal as the result of a blocked kick.
Flowers and record books
While Alex Amidon has dominated the Boston College record book (wide receivers) since he finished in 2013, he’s slowly being phased out by Zay Flowers.
Flowers’s two touchdown catches in last week’s win was his seventh career game with multiple receiving touchdowns. He has already eclipsed Amidon’s in career receiving yards (2,900) with the Eagles, and other records may fall in the final two games.
The Florida native needs three catches to pass Amidon’s 191 career receptions, and two touchdowns catches to surpass Kelvin Martin’s mark of 28.
Amidon will keep his mark for 100-yard receiving games (11), as the best Flowers can do is match that. He is 11 clear of Flowers in single-season receptions (78 to 67).
“He’s a complete wide receiver, and he deserves the credit because he’s worked at it. He’s had to learn it,” Hafley said of Flowers.
