Boston College vs Virginia Tech Prediction, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

So, two teams smarting from non-conference losses to open the season collide Saturday, Boston College and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Both the Eagles and Hokies were done in by late touchdowns (against Rutgers and Old Dominion, respectively), but now turn their sights to this ACC affair. Phil Jurkovec threw three touchdowns passes to stake Boston College to a 21-12 lead, but couldn’t move the offense when it mattered. An interception in Rutgers; territory doomed BC, the Scarlet Knights scoring with under three minutes left to steal the game.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech’s Grant Wells spoiled a 100-yard rushing game by Keshawn King-scoring once on the ground and once through the air-by throwing four interceptions. A killer in Old Dominion territory with four minutes left sunk The Hokies, who lost the fourth quarter, 10-0, and the game, 20-17. Va. Tech 7-13 in its last 20, needing (badly) this win. A bad Wofford team is the next opponent before Virginia Tech has West Virginia, North Carolina and ranked teams Pittsburgh, Miami and NC State.

According to the college football lines, Boston College and Virginia Tech are being given the same chance of winning the ACC at +6600, a chasm below Clemson (-175).

Boston College Eagles

Receiver Zay Flowers will be a marked man by the Virginia Tech defense after 10 catches for 117 yards (and two touchdowns) against Rutgers. He had a bit of a down year last season, due in part to quarterback Jurkovec missing time because of an injured hand. In 37 career games, Flowers has 132 receptions (2,096 yards, 19 touchdowns), averaging nearly 16 yards per reception. Flowers may have cashed somie NIL opportunities had he elected to transfer, but both he and his father wanted him to finish his career with the Eagles. There was an NFL scout who deemed Flowers the best deep threat in college football. Others don’t have him as a first-round prospect quite yet.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies’ defense did a good job limiting ODU, which finished with fewer than 250 yards of offense (only one offensive touchdown). They will need to be better against the Eagles, however, Senior linebacker Dax Hollifield led with 11 tackles (one-and a half for loss included), and two pass defenses. Nasir Peoples had 10 tackles (1½  for loss, too). Hokies finished with seven tackles for loss and four quarterback hurries. “I thought the kids played pretty good,” first-year head coach Brent Pry said. “We have a high standard. “We were a little bit sloppy at times. We need to tackle better. I think our depth arrived down the stretch.”

Boston College vs Virginia Tech Prediction

The Hokies are a slight home favorite in this one, but it has feel of a pick ’em game. The college football odds have the Eagles at +120 on the money line here. and that’s where you should be in this contest.

Three of the last four meetings between these teams went over the 46 points installed as this under/over line, so the over is attractive, if not crazy about either team.
