Buffaloes, Sanders Catch ATS Breath in a Prime-Time Beatdown of Cardinal
Colorado and coach Deion Sanders return to the national spotlight on Friday night as struggling Stanford comes to Boulder for an ESPN event. The Buffaloes are favored in the Las Vegas college football odds to defeat the Cardinal.
Coach Prime kept his club focused in a workmanlike 27-24 triumph at Arizona State last week – a subtle sign that the Buffaloes could be here to stay. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders leads the nation with 2,020 passing yards and could light up the star-filled Rocky Mountain sky against a porous Stanford pass defense.

Buffalo Pass: Shedeur Sanders over the Top, If He Gets Time
Sanders has made plenty of college football news. The junior quarterback and Coach Prime’s son is tied for third in the country with 16 touchdown passes. Stanford is 128th among the 130 FBS teams in passing yards allowed at 305.8 per game, so go to town on any Sanders passing yards props you can find. Sanders has plenty of targets at his disposal with four players recording at least two receiving TDs, so an anytime touchdown scorer is harder to pinpoint.
The Buffaloes’ big bugaboo is protecting their quarterback. Sanders is the most-sacked player in the land, going down 31 times. Stanford has only eight sacks, though.
“He’s mad. He’s upset with the way this looks,” Deion Sanders told the media about the punishment Shedeur is enduring. “He’s upset with the way it’s going. He’s upset with hit after hit after hit. You think he’s happy, being the most sacked guy in college football? He’s still doing what he’s capable of doing. He’s sick of it.”
NCAA football predictions start with this: Colorado will provide Shedeur the time he needs to shred the Stanford defense in a 42-17 triumph.
College Football Pick: Colorado -11½
Cardinal in the Red, Except Perhaps in Running Game
Stanford has struggled on both sides of the ball under first-year coach Troy Taylor. The Cardinal must figure out a way to pressure Sanders to have any chance. Stanford, though, didn’t record a sack or a quarterback hurry in its 56-10 loss to USC. Sanders isn’t Trojans reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, but he’s close. If Sanders is given the time he needs, forget it.
It’s too bad Stanford has thrown three TD passes and averages only 194.8 yards through the air because Colorado is saddled with the fourth-worst pass defense in the nation.
The Cardinal possess a middle-of-the-road ground attack while the Buffaloes are in the bottom third nationally in rushing defense. Stanford could use this to its advantage while keeping Sanders off the field. This strategy, though, probably won’t work well enough.
College Football Pick: Over 58½
Deion Does About Face: Hunter May Play, Adding to Hype
Coach Prime has done a 180 when it comes to two-way star Travis Hunter. Deion told the media there is a “tremendous chance” Hunter could play against Stanford. The cornerback/wide receiver sustained a lacerated liver on Sept. 16. It appears Deion’s dream and desire have changed from the comments he made prior to the Arizona State game.
“Let’s say two or three (weeks),” Sanders said. “It would be my dream and desire for him to stay out until after the bye week.”
Is this Deion trying to hype up a no-hype event? Or is Hunter a fast healer? It seems like a pretty serious injury, and to bring him back here is a puzzling move.
Odds Are that Something Unusual Might Happen
Sanders getting sacked is always a strong possibility, contributing to the chances of a non-offensive touchdown. Colorado speedster Xavier Weaver boasts a 51-yard punt return this season. Perhaps he can take one to the house. An interception return for a touchdown is less likely seeing as Shedeur has only two picks and Stanford’s Ashton Daniels totals three.

College Football Pick: Defensive or special teams touchdown scored
