Victory Bell

The Cincinnati Bearcats and Miami (Ohio) RedHawks have been playing each other since 1888. This will be the 126th edition of what is known as the Victory Bell game.

With the Bearcats at 1-1, this will be their second opportunity to get above .500. Will they make it and will they cover the college football odds in the process?

Let’s see where these teams stand heading into Week 3 and examine the matchup for those who bet online.

Let’s check the latest NCAAF picks, stats, injury reports, and NCAAF odds for Cincinnati vs Miami (Ohio). We’ve plenty of NCAAF predictions for you to consider.

Cincinnati Bearcats

The Cincinnati Bearcats challenged themselves in a Week 1 road trip to Arkansas and lost. They probably should have scheduled that game for Week 2 and played Kennesaw State in Week 1 to work out the kinks and gain a rhythm on offense.

Maybe they would have played better at Arkansas if they had a first game to establish patterns and tendencies and get everyone on the same page.

Cincinnati rolled past Kennesaw State 63-10. Quarterback Coby Bryant was crisp and efficient, unlike the Arkansas game.

The replacement for Desmond Ridder (the quarterback who led Cincy to the College Football Playoff last season and is now in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons) completed 16 of 19 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns.

He established the efficiency that was missing against Arkansas.

Cincinnati’s defense limited Kennesaw to 253 yards but, oddly, Kennesaw State controlled the ball for 38 minutes to just 22 for Cincinnati.

The Bearcats cannot afford that time of possession difference against better teams later this season.

Miami (Ohio) RedHawks

Miami (Ohio) RedHawks defeated FCS opponent Robert Morris 31-14 last week. That’s not a lot of points in what is a cupcake game against a weaker foe.

Miami’s quarterback room has been shaken up by the injury to Brett Gabbert. Aveon Smith is trying to settle into his role as starting quarterback, but it’s a sluggish process.

Smith has thrown only 26 passes this season, completing 16 of them for 168 total yards. Miami really doesn’t have a passing attack that is likely to threaten Cincinnati.

It’s hard to assign too much value to the Robert Morris game, but if you’re making your college football picks here, it’s clear that Miami does not have an especially potent offense.

The RedHawks were unable to do much of anything against Kentucky’s defense in Week 1. Cincinnati’s defense poses a substantial challenge for Miami.

Cincinnati vs Miami (Ohio) Injury Report

Cincinnati defensive lineman Malik Vann is out, as are offensive lineman Jake Renfro and receiver Will Pauling.

Running back Ryan Montgomery, linebacker Devin Hightower, defensive lineman Dominique Perry and offensive lineman Landon Fickell are questionable. Even so, none of this should really impact them this week.

Miami quarterback Brett Gabbert is out. That’s a big loss for a team that was hoping to build success around the brother of the former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert.

Cincinnati vs Miami (Ohio) Head-to-Head

These teams are tied in the head-to-head series with 59 wins apiece and seven ties. Cincinnati is on a 15-game winning streak to tie the series.

The Bearcats won last season’s meeting 49-14.

Cincinnati vs Miami (Ohio) Prediction

The Bearcats are far better to begin with but Miami’s quarterback situation is a real concern for the RedHawks.

Cincinnati should be able to run away with this game and win by a very large margin, enough to cover the huge spread in the sportsbook.
