College Football Hot Picks for Oct. 4: Bet Alabama Over Texas A&M

Texas A&M finds itself as a two-point home underdog in the Las Vegas college football odds as Alabama comes to town. The over-under is set at 47 points in the NCAA odds for this SEC showdown.

This is not your mama’s Bama team, but the Crimson Tide are still plenty talented to compete against any team in the country despite looking human to start the season. Just ask the pair of Mississippi schools who lost to Nick Saban’s squad by double digits in back-to-back weeks.

As for Texas A&M, the Aggies have bounced back nicely after their blowout loss to Miami in Week 2. Like Alabama, Texas A&M is also coming off consecutive double-digit SEC wins over Auburn and Arkansas.

Here are my college game day picks for the Alabama-Texas A&M clash.

Are We Sure Alabama Is Dead?

There is an interesting trend that happens anytime Alabama loses which is to declare that Saban’s dynasty is over. This season is an extreme version of this reality as the Crimson Tide followed up their loss to Texas by struggling to beat South Florida.

Since then, Bama silenced Lane Kiffin and an Ole Miss team that was a trendy upset pick in the Week 4 college football predictions. Alabama followed this up with a decisive 23-point road victory over Mississippi State.

Texas A&M Is Starting Backup Quarterback Max Johnson

Bama is just a two-point favorite despite Texas A&M turning to backup quarterback Max Johnson after losing Conner Weigman to a season-ending foot injury against Auburn in Week 6. Johnson impressed against Arkansas, but something tells me that Saban is already digging into the tape to find the quarterback’s weaknesses.

Oh Yeah, Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher Do Not Like Each Other

This is the kind of recognizable helmet matchup that does not need extra juice, but this SEC matchup has it anyway. You may remember the college football news when Saban and Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher publicly feuded during the 2022 offseason which led to an epic rant from Fisher in which the Aggies coach questioned Saban’s ethics while sounding like an auctioneer who drank too many Red Bulls.

The original feud centered around NIL after Saban accused Texas A&M of paying for the top recruiting class in 2022. The two coaches have since played nice and are unlikely to ruffle any feathers heading into this matchup. Just know, much like the SEC propaganda machine espouses, it just means more for both of these coaches aiming for victory.

Alabama Rolls Over Texas A&M

Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe is not going to confuse anyone for having Tom Brady’s pocket presence, but Alabama is starting to play to his strength as a runner. Bama is also leaning on a heavy dose of running back Jase McClellan to help ease the pressure on Milroe.

At the risk of being featured on Cold Takes Exposed in December, this Alabama squad does not look like a title contender, but the team is still better than most SEC squads. Look for Saban to dial up the pressure on Johnson, and Milroe to do enough for the Crimson Tide to win comfortably at Kyle Field.
