Things start to heat up in Week 5 of the college football season. Just about every team this week will be facing a conference opponent, which can help when making college football picks for the over. Each team has played a few games now, meaning we understand which offenses are good and what defenses are struggling.

This week, when looking at the over/under lines at BetUS Sportsbook, it helps to have the stats on teams’ offenses, especially how often they have hit the over. Most teams will face tougher opponents this week, which might help when betting the over, with the lines possibly lower despite great offenses on the field.

3 Over Bets For College Football Week 5

1. Virginia Tech vs Miami

Right away, this matchup between Virginia Tech and Miami is an option to hit the over. Out of four games this season, each team has hit the over three times, which increases the chances of that happening this week.

On Miami’s side, it is easy to see why it has hit the over with such regularity. The Hurricanes’ offense has been the most significant reason they are ranked seventh in the nation. On top of that, quarterback Cam Ward has risen in Heisman rankings, headlining college football news with his odds at +350 to win the award.

Last week, Miami did not hit the over, but against South Florida, with the over/under line set at 65 points, it forced a push with a 50-15 win. In that win, Ward threw for 404 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while also running for a season-high 43 yards. There is no doubt that Miami’s offense is one of the best in the nation, averaging the fourth most points per game (52.3).

The question then is, can Virginia Tech keep up with Miami? Even though the Hokies’ offense and defense have been solid this season, they have hit the over three times. The one time they hit the under was for their highest over/under line of the season, at 54½, the same as this game. Virginia Tech’s offense doesn’t blow anyone away, and the defense lets up more than enough points. That is the perfect combination for Miami to put up a lot of points but give up enough to hit the over.

2. TCU vs Kansas

This next game might be a little less of an obvious choice, mainly because of Kansas. Through four games this season, TCU has hit the over three times, while Kansas has just done that once. However, for college football predictions, neither team has covered a spread this season, which could mean this matchup should be close.

Despite some excitement around Kansas’s season, especially on the offensive side of the ball, it has been mediocre. Quarterback Jalon Daniels is back and healthy but has struggled this season, with 626 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions through four games. He may have had his best game last week, with 184 yards, one touchdown, and an interception, completing 60% of his passes. At home, with running back Devin Neal still playing great, averaging 6.2 yards per carry and rushing for over 100 yards in the first four games of the season, maybe the Jayhawks offense gets on track.

On the other side of the field, TCU has rediscovered its passing game with quarterback Josh Hoover. He has passed for over 390 yards, with at least three touchdowns in his last two games. While that has not exactly led to wins for the Horned Frogs, they have hit the over in their previous two games, facing UCF and SMU. There is a good chance this TCU offense keeps rolling behind Hoover against Kansas.

3. Washington State vs Boise State

While this is not a conference game right now, it will be in two years when Boise State joins the Pac-12, hoping to rebuild the conference. That could lead to an exciting matchup between Washington State and Boise State this week, especially considering each team has a high-scoring offense.

Boise State’s offenses have been making noise, hitting the over in all three games this season. The biggest part of the Broncos’ success this season has been their running game, which has averaged the nation’s third-most rushing yards per game (311.3). Running back Ashton Jeanty has been the most significant factor, averaging 10.5 yards per carry. He has 586 yards and nine touchdowns on the season, already looking like the nation’s top running back.

Because of Boise State’s offense, which has hit the over in every game this season, the college football line has been set pretty high. However, Washington State has held its own on offense, averaging 46.3 points per game this season. Quarterback John Mateer has been the star, passing for 1,102 yards and rushing for 425 while contributing 16 touchdowns. The Cougars have enough offense to keep up with Boise State and make this game an over.

Questions Of The Day

What is the best over bet in college football week 5?

Miami’s offense has just been so good this season. It is hard to see it not continue that path, no matter what defense is on the field.

Is there a player prop to keep track of to parlay with some of these overs?

Ashton Jeanty has probably become the best running back in the nation, and he should get into the endzone for Boise State.
