Don’t Sweat High Total with Tulsa vs Washington

Both Tulsa and No. 8 Washington started slowly in the first quarter of the season’s opening game. However, each team would dominate the rest of the game, which could lead to an exciting matchup for college football betting this week.

After the first quarter, the Golden Hurricanes were down by seven before rattling off 42 straight points to beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 42-7. A second quarter in which Tulsa scored four touchdowns quickly turned the game’s tide.

Similarly, the Huskies were down 6-0 at the end of the first quarter against Boise State. However, that did not last long, with Washington scoring 56 points in the final three quarters, winning 56-19.

Tulsa’s Only Betting Hope is to Help Hit the Over

Last week’s performance by Tulsa was good enough to raise college football lines on the total points scored in its matchup against Washington to 65½. That is a pretty high line, which seems very obtainable based on what the Golden Hurricanes did in their first game.

Sure, Tulsa beat up on an FCS team, but quarterback Cardell Williams still had a game worth noting. He attempted 13 passes, completing 12 of them for 233 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a score. Williams came in after starting quarterback Braylon Braxton threw two interceptions on Tulsa’s first two drives.

While the receiving corps was headlined by Marquis Shoulders with five catches, 132 yards and two touchdowns, the ground game played a big part in last week’s victory. Jordan Ford rushed for 110 yards and a score while the Golden Hurricanes amassed 260 rushing yards.

Now the question is if the offense can do enough against Washington to make a bet on the over worth it for college football picks. Washington allowed 402 yards, including 264 passing, against Boise State last week, so Tulsa could at least find enough success to get past the line of 65½.

No Slowing Washington Offense

Another reason for taking the over in NCAA football odds for this game seems possible is Washington’s offense. Last season, the Huskies had arguably the best passing offense in the nation and are on a path to do so again.

It took no time for Michael Penix Jr. to get back into the swing of things, passing for 450 yards and throwing five touchdowns. He regularly found his top two receivers, Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan, who combined for 15 receptions, 227 yards, and three touchdowns.

There will be very little hope for Tulsa to slow down Washington’s offense, which is looking to have another big game. Last week, with the Huskies scoring 56 points, they nearly hit the over of 59 on their own. Something similar can happen again this week.

The only issue could be that Washington’s defense started to hit its stride at the end of last week’s game. The Huskies‘ defense only allowed seven points in the second half despite Boise State trying to keep up with Washington’s scoring. The defense also forced two interceptions.

Washington alone might be able to hit the over like they nearly did in Week 1. But, with some help from Tulsa’s solid offense, hitting the over on 65½ looks pretty realistic.

The only factors that could keep the over from being hit are if the Golden Hurricanes once again struggle with interceptions and the Huskies’ defense takes full advantage. If that doesn’t happen, the early parts of this game could be interesting with two offenses going back and forth until Penix and the Huskies take complete control.

Pick: Over 65½ -110
