The Florida State Seminoles (4-1, 2-1) look to avoid consecutive losses to ranked teams against the No. 14 North Carolina State Wolfpack (4-1, 0-1) on Saturday. The Seminoles suffered their first loss of the year in Week 5 against the No. 22 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Wolfpack is also coming off a loss to a ranked opponent after No. 5 Clemson beat them 31-21.
Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles rely on a terrific offense that ranks 18th in yards per play. Despite losing to Wake Forest in Week 5, QB Jordan Travis was outstanding with 281 yards and three touchdowns. Treshaun Ward led the ground attack with 87 yards on 13 touches.
But the offense sputtered on third down too often and finished 4-for-11 in those precious moments. On the season, the Seminoles rank 22nd in third-down conversions, so this performance was unlike them. Meanwhile, FSU continues to struggle in the Red Zone and ranks 121st with a 65% scoring percentage. This could be an issue against a Wolfpack defense that ranks 38th in opponent third-down conversion percentage at 34.5%.
North Carolina State Wolfpack
While FSU is an offensive-minded program; the Wolfpack is a defense-first team. NC State ranks 20th in the nation in opponent scoring and 15th in yards allowed per game. This creates a nightmare matchup for the Seminoles, especially with all the injuries on their offense.
NC State’s top defense is complemented by QB Devin Leary and an improved Wolfpack offense. Leary is one of the better quarterbacks in the conference, with three years of experience as a starter.
Unfortunately, Leary has struggled to string together back-to-back solid games. He went 15-for-23 with 121 yards and no touchdowns in Week 3 but exploded for 320 yards and four TDs in Week 4. Last week was another down performance with 245 yards, a touchdown and an interception against Clemson. Luckily, FSU ranks 105th in opponent completion percentage with a leaky secondary. They don’t give up a ton of big plays but are susceptible to a quality short game.

Florida State vs North Carolina State Prediction
Both teams are in bounce-back mode after suffering their first losses in Week 5. But it’s NC State which we are backing to come through. The Wolfpack looked solid in a loss to No. 5 Clemson and have a stifling defense. The Seminoles rely on their ground game, but the Wolfpack allows less than 100 yards on the ground per game.
