Go with Georgia To End Alabama’s SEC and National Championship Dreams

In a season full of surprises, it should stun about nobody to see Georgia and Alabama playing for the SEC Championship Game for the third time in the last six years. This is the 10th year in a row that either Alabama and Georgia will play for the SEC title. The college football betting lines list the Bulldogs as the favorites to win back-to-back SEC title games for the first time in program history.

Alabama had won seven straight games against Georgia before the Bulldogs won 33-18 in the national championship game following the 2021 season. Each of the last three games between the teams has been decided by at least 15 points

The college football spread has Georgia as a 6-point favorite. It is the third consecutive time that the Bulldogs are favored against Alabama.

In the most recent meeting, tight end Brock Bowers had a touchdown reception to give Georgia the lead and a defensive touchdown with less than a minute to play iced the game as the Dawgs covered as three-point favorites. The game landed just under the 53-point total.

Receivers Ladd McConkey (26 catches), C.J. Smith (19.3 yards per catch) and Rara Thomas (23 catches) are all questionable for Georgia while linebackers E.J. Lightsey and Jamon Dumas-Johnson are out.

For Alabama, running back Jase McClellan (803 yards), receiver Ja’Corey Brooks and defensive back Jaylen Key (53 tackles) are all questionable.

Georgia remains first in the College Football Playoff Rankings while the Bulldogs received 111 of 125 first-place votes to sit at No. 1 in both national polls. Alabama is eighth in the College Football Playoff rankings and is also eighth in both national polls.

Georgia would be in the conversation as the best college football team ever with a third straight national title. A win on Saturday would leave the Bulldogs two victories shy of achieving that goal.

When looking at the college football futures odds, Georgia (+200) has the second-best odds of winning the national title. Alabama (+850) is fourth in the championship odds.

Concerns Abound with Alabama’s Top Rusher

Georgia was the team hurt by injuries at the running back position coming into the season but Alabama’s top rusher Jase McClellan is the one with the biggest concern coming into this game.

The last time the teams met, Alabama ran the ball 28 times for 60 yards. It is unlikely that the Crimson Tide can win if those numbers are repeated.

The running ability of quarterback Jalen Milroe does play a role in the Alabama offense but not having McClellan would be a huge blow in a game that the Crimson Tide needs to win to have any chance of securing one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff field.

The Vegas College Football odds total has gone over in six of Georgia’s last eight games.

Bowers, Bulldogs Look To Seal the Deal

It has not quite been the season that Bowers was hoping for as an injury ended any hopes of Bowers winning the Heisman Trophy.

Bowers has missed three games. He went through pre-game warmups for the Georgia Tech game but was held out. Georgia coach Kirby Smart said that Bowers probably could have played but wasn’t 100%. Don’t expect Bowers to sit out this game.

Bowers has 16 catches for 220 yards and a pair of touchdown catches in his two previous SEC championship games and expect him to play a key role in this matchup. With Bowers leading the way, don’t be surprised to see plenty of points in this matchup.

Georgia ranks in the top 10 in both yards and points per game with the Bulldogs leading the nation with an average of 14.5 points per game in the second quarter of games and they are second in points scored in the third quarter.

Georgia’s defense has been susceptible to allowing points in the first and fourth quarters.

Alabama is one of the hardest teams to score against in the fourth quarter.

Four of the last five games between Alabama and Georgia finished over the total and this game could head in the same direction.

NCAAF Pick: Alabama-Georgia to go over 53½ points.

Go with the Bulldogs To Reign Supreme

An Alabama win would create plenty of chaos when it comes to selecting the four teams to play in the College Football Playoff. However, Alabama has not always looked like a national title contender this season.

The Crimson Tide needed a late touchdown pass on a 4th-and-goal at the 31 to avoid falling to Auburn and now comes a showdown with Georgia.

There will be plenty of pressure on the quarterbacks with Milroe and Carson Beck of Georgia starting in the SEC Championship Game for the first time. How will they handle things?

Beck has the advantage of throwing to Bowers though injuries to some key receivers are a cause for concern.

Georgia is 4-7-1 against the spread with the Bulldogs being favored in each game. Alabama is 8-4 against the college football odds.

NCAAF Pick: Georgia to cover at 6-point favorites against Alabama.
