Group of Five Week 2 Props: Bet on Early Points for SMU-Oklahoma

Group of Five play was entertaining in Week 1. Texas State pulled off a massive upset over Baylor. Toledo competed with Illinois down to the wire. There are always enticing college football odds available for the Group of Five.

Following a rough first week of college football betting, I’m looking for a bounce-back week. Several props look like promising college football picks. Here are my top props of the week in the Group of Five.

No Scoring Explosions in Texas State-UTSA

UTSA was perhaps one of the biggest disappointments of Week 1. The Roadrunners were labeled as a contender in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). They even have the potential to represent the Group of Five in a New Year’s Six game. UTSA fell flat with a 17-14 loss against Houston.

It’s not too late, though. The Roadrunners could bounce back and contend in the AAC. It starts this week with a matchup against Texas State. The Bobcats are riding high following their first Power Five win in program history.

The sportsbook expects this clash to be high-scoring with a total of 67. One prop stands out. College football lines have no team reaching 40+ points priced at -110.

UTSA’s quarterback Frank Harris was a disaster last week with three interceptions. With a struggling signal-caller, this offense could sputter. In addition, the Roadrunners did their part in the season-opener, holding the Cougars to only 17 points. Texas State has reached 40 points only once over its previous 10 games.

  • Pick: No Team Scores 40+ Points in Texas State vs. UTSA (-110)

Explosive Offenses on Show in SMU-Oklahoma

SMU against No. 18 Oklahoma is one of the most enticing matchups of the week. The Sooners were terrific in their 73-0 win against Arkansas State. It looked like ASU’s coach Butch Jones had a mental breakdown by the end of the smackdown.

ACC Week 2 Best Prop Bets

It was a rough scene, but who wouldn’t be upset after that shellacking? SMU could be sweating bullets after witnessing that matchup. Oklahoma totaled 642 yards, led by quarterback Dillon Gabriel’s 308 passing yards with an 86.4% completion percentage.

The Mustangs are known for their offense too. They posted 38 points in Week 1. Following impressive scoring outputs in Week 1, we should expect plenty of points. I like the first score taking place under the five-minute mark.

Both teams have showcased the ability to hit explosives. SMU opened its season with a 67-yard touchdown strike. Oklahoma had 14 points within three minutes… Yeah, someone’s going to score fast. This could be a track meet.

  • Pick: SMU vs. No. 18 Oklahoma – Under Five Minutes for First Score (-121)

    Tulane’s Star Shines

No. 20 Ole Miss vs. No. 24 Tulane is the top Group of Five matchup of Week 2. Despite going 9-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games, college football odds have the Green Wave as 7½-point dogs. Tulane comes off a 20-point win as a 6½-point spread.

This team has not missed a beat. Quarterback Michael Pratt showcased his NFL Draft potential with 294 passing yards and four touchdowns. That’s not even the most impressive stat. Pratt completed 14 of 15 pass attempts. That’s 21 yards per completion… pretty efficient if you ask me.

With that said, look for Pratt to flourish on the big stage against the Rebels. He can be a dual threat. He totaled 39 rushing yards last week and posted 10 rushing touchdowns in the 2022 season.

  • Pick: Michael Pratt Will Have At Least One Touchdown (+129)
