Iowa State vs Oklahoma State Prediction, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

Last week Iowa State finally got its first win in the Big 12, beating West Virginia 31-14, as the defense dominated. The defense of the Cyclones (4-5, 1-5 Big 12) has been the team’s greatest strength and will be tested this week.

Oklahoma State (6-3, 3-3) had a solid season, but after back-to-back losses, it has fallen out of the AP Top 25. The Cowboys had been ranked in the top 10 in six weeks, but are no longer ranked for the first time.

Let’s check the latest college football odds, stats, injury reports, and college football lines for Iowa State vs Oklahoma State. We’ve plenty of NCAA football odds for you to consider.

Iowa State Defense

Everything starts on the defensive side of the ball for Iowa State, as it is arguably the best defense in the Big 12. Against West Virginia, the offense finally put up some points. The Cyclones hadn’t scored over 30 points in conference play until last week and eclipsed 20 only twice.

The Cyclones have allowed the fewest yards and points in the Big 12 at 16.3 points and 284.4 yards per game. Last week, the defense held a solid offense to 200 yards and 14 points, including a touchdown on the last drive when the game was already over. However, it hasn’t made the big, game-changing plays, having the fewest sacks in the conference and just five interceptions.

On offense, it has been a mixed bag. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers has been inconsistent, but he had a good game last week with 219 yards, two touchdowns and, crucially, no interceptions, after throwing three the previous week. At running back, Deon Silas broke out with six rushes for 77 yards while the team’s leading back, Jirehl Brock, only had four carries.

Oklahoma State Collapse

After a 6-1 start, the last two weeks have been extremely disappointing for Oklahoma State. It started when the Cowboys were not just upset by Kansas State but dominated 48-0. Starting quarterback Spencer Sanders was injured in the game but it had no connection to the loss as he left the game in the fourth quarter already down 38-0. Then, facing Kansas, the defense allowed opposing running back Devin Neal to go off for 334 total yards in a 37-16 rout. Freshman quarterback Garret Rangel replaced Sanders.

Last week’s loss can’t be fully put on Rangel, who threw two of his three interceptions on the first two drives of the game. He also had two touchdowns and 304 yards. Allowing 351 rushing yards to Kansas and 199 to Kansas State is the biggest reason the Cowboys were crushed in back-to-back weeks.

With the hopeful return of Sanders as the starting quarterback, he could bring the offense back to its usual form, averaging 36.6 points and 433.3 yards per game. However, he can’t fix the Cowboys’ defense.

Having Sanders back should be a massive lift for the Cowboys, coming in as 1½-point underdog. They have a good chance to win, which makes picking the moneyline a smart bet.
