Kansas State vs West Virginia Prediction, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

No. 15 Kansas State (7-3, 5-2) has a chance to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game, while West Virginia (4-6, 2-5) will try to spoil that with home-field advantage. Last week opened a clear path for the visitors, who, if they win, would likely play TCU in the Championship Game.

The Wildcats had an impressive win over Baylor, winning 31-3, in a statement game with a lot riding on it. This week could be the second straight upset for the Mountaineers, who beat Oklahoma 23-20 on a game-winning field.

Kansas State Has a Different Path

Last week could not have gone any better for Kansas State. The Wildcats entered the week in a three-way tie for second place in the Big-12 with Baylor and Texas, which faced undefeated TCU. In a close game, TCU remained undefeated, but the Wildcats dominated Baylor, meaning Kansas State remained in second place, now alone.

Baylor seemed ready to defend against the Wildcats‘ rushing offense, featuring starting quarterback Adrian Martinez and star running back Deuce Vaughn. However, when Martinez went down with an injury on the team’s second drive, Will Howard came in and played well.

Howard threw for 196 yards with three touchdowns, having thrown for seven in his last two appearances for an injured Martinez. It is possible there could be a quarterback controversy, especially with Martinez already listed as healthy.

The defense had an outstanding performance, forcing two interceptions. There are two games left against teams in the bottom half of the Big 12 standings, which may mean the Wildcats will be in a championship game.

West Virginia May Have a New Quarterback

It is not hard to see that everything changed for West Virginia when Garrett Greene came in to replace starting quarterback JT Daniels. Daniels was in the middle of his second bad start, throwing for 65 yards and an interception.

Greene would go off, contributing to all three touchdowns, one through the air and two on the ground, ending the game with 138 passing yards and 114 rushing yards. He led a 15-play final drive with just over six minutes left in the game that ended with the game-winning field goal.

The Mountaineers may have found a new spark on offense, but the defense struggled. It gave up 426 yards and 236 on the ground. However, it benefited from two missed field goals and two fourth-down stands.

Kansas State vs West Virginia Picks & Prediction

West Virginia and Greene had the element of a surprise last week. That will be different against Kansas State, which has its own quarterback controversy. This is another must-win game for the Wildcats, who have an explosive run game and face a team that just had it’s run defense thrashed.

If Kansas State gets a lead, they will keep it, having the run game to do so and a defense that can hold an opponent. This might be a game that Martinez starts because of his threat with his legs due to West Virginia’s issues stopping the run.
