The Kansas Jayhawks have dropped their previous two games. \It wasn’t due to a lack of offense. Kansas had 73 points (770 yards) in those games. Entering Week 8, the Jayhawks rank 19th in points per game (37½), and ninth in yards per play (6.8).
They have succeeded due to the play of starting quarterback Jalon Daniels. The problem is Daniels suffered a shoulder injury, and won’t be back until early November. That leaves the offense in the hands of senior Jason Bean. Over the last two weeks, Bean is 32-of-51 (527 yards, four touchdowns, three interceptions). Kansas lost both of those games. Bean’s no slouch, but can’t replicate Daniels’ consistency or results. The only saving grace is Baylor’s shaky pass defense. The Bears rank 101st in opponent completion rate (64.8%), 92nd in sack rate (4.28%) and 79th in pass yards allowed per game (249.8).
Baylor
The fact Daniels is out is huge. Baylor’s passing defense isn’t great. Daniels may very well have shredded it. However, with Bean at quarterback, Baylor will have an easier time slowing down KU
The Bears’ rushing defense is their bread and butter, 25th in yards per rush (3½) and 33rd in yards per game (122.8). Despite that, Baylor may struggle against the Jayhawks’ 18th-ranked rushing offense in yards per carry (5.2). Kansas averages nearly 200 yards per game on the ground, and will rely on that with Daniels on the shelf.
