Mississippi State vs Texas Betting Preview and Best Pick
After crushing overmatched Eastern Kentucky in its regular-season opener, Mississippi State (1-3) has dropped three straight. The Bulldogs looked particularly inept in Saturday’s 45-28 home loss against a Florida Gators team that has reportedly been on the verge of firing head coach Billy Napier since Week 1. Mississippi State gave up 503 yards of total offense and never challenged Florida after going into the half down 28-14.
“We’ve got a choice to make, and the choice is up to each and every one of us,” Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby told NCAA football news outlets afterward. “We’re going to wake up in the morning, the sun’s going to come up, we’re going to have breath in our body and we’re going to be thankful for the opportunity”
Despite their defensive struggles this season, Bulldogs quarterback Blake Shapen is completing 68.5 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and only one interception.
Texas destroyed UL-Monroe 51-3 on Saturday as ballyhooed freshman quarterback Arch Manning passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns while junior running back Jaydon Blue rushed for 124 yards and three scores. The Longhorns covered the college football spread as a 43.5-point favorite to improve to 4-0 ATS on the season.
Mississippi State is 3-11-1 ATS in its last 15 games and 0-7 STS in its last seven games in September. On the flip side of the coin, Texas has won 10 straight at home. The Longhorns are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games and have covered the college football lines three times this season as a favorite of at least 35 points.
I’m not fond of this really high point spread, but from what I’ve seen, the Bulldogs stand little chance of covering it. I’m going with Texas to crush Mississippi State in this Week 5 matchup to narrowly cover the spread and not even a Hail Mary could save the Bulldogs from certain defeat on Saturday.
Mississippi State’s first-time head coach looks like a guy that is completely in over his head and
Texas is highly motivated to stay at the top pf the national rankings. For our NCAA football predictions, Arch Manning throws at least three touchdown passes and Jaydon Blue runs for multiple scores to lead the Longhorns to the huge win!
