An intriguing matchup for the Independence Bowl sees the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs taking on the Army Black Knights on Saturday. Louisiana Tech finished with a losing record at 5-7 but took the spot of Sun Belt champion Marshall when the Thundering Herd pulled out of the game.

As you might expect, Army at 11-2 is a heavy favorite at BetUS Sportsbook, giving 16½ points. You can get Louisiana Tech to pull the outright upset at +550 odds while the Black Knights are -800 on the moneyline. The over/under for the game has been set at 44 points.

The Thundering Herd had to vacate the bowl with their head coach Charles Huff moving on to Southern Miss and many players already in the transfer portal. That opened the door for Louisiana Tech, which won two of its last three games and finished 4-4 in Conference USA play.

2 Bets to Consider for Louisiana Tech vs Army

1. Army ATS Pick -16½

The Black Knights have had a very successful season, with their only two losses coming to Notre Dame and Navy. As usual, Army’s attack revolves around the running game. Per Louisiana Tech vs Army stats, the Black Knights have rushed for a nation-best 298.9 yards per game.

Senior quarterback Bryson Daily has been the conductor of the Army triple-option offense, calling his own number quite often. Daily leads the Black Knights with 1,532 yards and 29 touchdowns on the ground, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.

Daily has gone over 100 yards in 11 of 13 contests this season, though he was stymied by the Navy defense to the tune of just 52 yards in the Black Knights’ last game. He’ll want to end his collegiate career the right way, so look for a big game from him in this one.

The passing game is a part of the Army offense, though a minor part. Daily has thrown for 942 yards and nine touchdowns this season, taking advantage of teams that stack the line to stop the run.

Louisiana Tech has been very good against the run this season, leading Conference USA by allowing just 120.1 yards per game on the ground in 2024. Still, Army’s offense is hard to stop, and we don’t see the Bulldogs doing it much on Saturday.

When you bet online, take the Black Knights giving the points as they literally run away with this one.

2. Louisiana Tech vs Army Over 44

The 44-point total set may get eclipsed by just the Black Knights in this one. Army had five games of 40 or more points and averaged 32.0 points per game on the season, per NCAAF betting trends.

But Louisiana Tech has some offensive punch as well, scoring 30 or more points three times this season, including 33 in a shutout win over Kennesaw State in its last contest.

Freshman quarterback Evan Bullock has been getting better as the season has progressed, earning All-Freshman honors for Conference USA. Bullock has thrown for 1,938 yards and 14 touchdowns with just two interceptions this season.

He had two touchdown passes in a loss to Arkansas late in the season and three against Jacksonville State in an overtime setback in early November.

Bullock and the Bulldogs will likely be passing a lot in this one, playing from behind against the Black Knights. They’ll find some ways to get into the end zone, helping push this game over 44 points.
