The New Mexico Bowl matchup between the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the TCU Horned Frogs isn’t expected to be a close game according to the oddsmakers. Even though Louisiana is making its seventh straight trip to a bowl and has 10 wins on the season, it is a heavy underdog against TCU from the Big 12.

The college football odds have TCU as a 12-point favorite for this contest. A Louisiana straight-up victory gets you +333 odds on the moneyline while TCU is -425 without a point spread. The over/under for the game is set at 58½ points.

Louisiana won the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference with a 7-1 mark but was blown out by Marshall in the Sun Belt Championship Game, 31-3. TCU won its last three regular-season games and finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the Big 12 standings with a 6-3 conference mark.

2 Bets You Should Make On Louisiana vs TCU

1. TCU -12

After some early-season struggles, including a loss to College Football Playoff participant SMU, the Horned Frogs have found their groove of late, winning four of their last five contests. Leading the way for the team’s success has been quarterback Josh Hoover, who has thrown for 3,697 yards and 23 touchdowns and is a potential NCAAF player prop bet.

Equally hot of late has been senior wide receiver JP Richardson, who has 15 catches for 257 yards over the last three games. Richardson is joined by senior Jack Bech (62 catches, 1,034 yards, nine TDs) to give Hoover a couple of threats to take it to the house any time they get some room.

Louisiana’s defense is going to be under some stress from the start. The Ragin’ Cajuns allowed 410 yards of total offense to Marshall in their last game, well above their season’s average of 347.0 yards allowed per game.

Louisiana must be able to get some pressure on Hoover or he’ll pick its secondary apart. We like the Horned Frogs to have success throwing the ball on their way to an easy win that covers the spread. Make TCU giving the points one of your college football picks for this one.

2. Louisiana vs TCU Over 58½

While Louisiana has given up a lot of points this season, it can also put points on the board itself. It’s competition level hasn’t quite been what TCU’s has, but Louisiana did score 41 points in a win over Wake Forest earlier in the season.

Looking at the Louisiana vs TCU stats, the Ragin’ Cajuns are averaging 33.1 points. The Horned Frogs also give up 26.4 points per outing.

The question will be at quarterback for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Senior Ben Wooldridge started the first 10 games of the season, leading the team to an 8-1 record before getting hurt against South Alabama.

Coach Michael Desormeaux said Wooldridge is probable to return for the bowl game, which is good news after Chandler Fields went down in the Sun Belt title game with a shoulder injury. Wooldridge had passed for 2,392 yards and 17 touchdowns before he was injured, so if he can go on Saturday, it will be a shot in the arm for the Louisiana offense.

This should be a shootout that everyone loves to watch. Make sure you bet online on the over to get the wagering win.
