We are Marshall? Not Looking Like It
After losing 31-14 to Virginia Tech last week, Marshall isn’t looking like the tough customer it used to be.
The Thundering Herd won going away in the opening week by beating Stony Brook by 45-3, but the level of opposition was terrible, and now the Herd face the third-ranked team in the nation.
Our BetUS sportsbook isn’t giving Marshall much respect at +40, but it’s not hard to see why. The Thundering Herd not on the same level as Ohio State, and playing on the road doesn’t help their chances.
Quarterback Stone Earle hasn’t quite lived up to expectations after going 23 of 52 for only 228 yards. He doesn’t have a downfield threat, and the Buckeyes’ defense will be all over the short passing plays.
Marshall will need to rely on running back A.J. Turner, who has been the only shining light. He has 222 yards and a touchdown from 14 carries, so he’ll need to have a breakout performance to see Marshall put points on the board.
The Herd had a chance to make some plays against the Hokies, but as coach Charles Huff said, they didn’t take their chances.
“We take ownership of it. We missed some opportunities. We had a chance to make some plays that could have swung the momentum in how they played us. We just didn’t make them,” Huff said.
Chances won’t come often against Ohio State Buckeyes, hence the college football line of +40.
Business as Usual for No. 3 Buckeyes
The Buckeyes have yet to play a tough game and that will be the case through Week 4.
They smashed the Akron Zips 52-6 before blanking the Western Michigan Broncos 56-0, so there haven’t been any negatives for the No. 3 team in the country.
The tough games will come, but first they need to put up a big score on Marshall, and we think that’s highly likely. They are an unstoppable force on offense with Will Howard at QB and Quinshon Judkins at running back.

Having that one-two combination is why they’re favored to win with NCAAF odds, but the defense is also worth noting. Allowing just six points through two games is tough to overlook, and the sizable defensive line could give Marshall’s offense more than enough to handle.
They’re not worried about losing to Marshall, which allows them to play with freedom. Completing big pass plays down the field is likely, and we expect the -40 line to shift to around -42 come game time.
Bet Buckeyes and Big Total
The Buckeyes are at the top of our college football picks for Week 4, and because we think they’ll win big, we’re also including over 51½.
All of the scoring might have to come from the Buckeyes, but they have scored over 50 points in both games so far, so a third is likely.
Marshall’s defense isn’t strong enough to keep Ohio State from putting up a big total, and it should be one-sided from the outset.
Bet on Ohio State -40 (-110) and Over 51½ (-110) vs Marshall
