Miami Aims for Consistency
The Miami Hurricanes have had an up-and-down season, especially over the last six games. Miami hasn’t had a winning streak since starting 2-0 and hasn’t had a losing streak since dropping their next three games to reach 2-3.
Part of that has been an inconsistent offense, with three different players leading the team in passing yards. Freshman Jacurri Brown was the most recent, throwing for 136 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over Georgia Tech.
Sophomore Tyler Van Dyke (1,761 yards, 10 touchdowns) had been the starter before suffering a shoulder injury. Coach Mario Cristobal is hopeful Van Dyke can play before the end of the season, but it’s expected that Brown will be under center for this one.
The defense came up big in last week’s win over Georgia Tech. Kamren Kinchens had three of the team’s four interceptions, including a 99-yard pick-six. The four turnovers helped the Hurricanes win in a blowout despite being outgained by 10 yards.
Clemson Enjoys Bounce-Back Performance
The Clemson Tigers were licking their wounds a bit after a Nov. 5 blowout loss to Notre Dame that ended their chance at a perfect season. But Clemson was determined to come back and play better against Louisville last week, which the Tigers did in routing the Cardinals 31-16.
“We definitely wanted to play great tonight, we wanted to dominate,” Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei said after last Saturday’s win. “We wanted to get back on track to how we play offense.”
Uiagalelei did his part, running for one touchdown and throwing for another while finishing with 217 total yards of offense. The junior has thrown for 2,179 yards and 19 touchdowns while also rushing for 405 yards and five scores.
Sophomore running back Will Shipley had a big game, rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown. Shipley has 899 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, scoring at least once in each of the last three contests.
Freshman Antonio Williams continued to be a consistent receiver for the Tigers, making 10 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown in the win. Williams has 43 receptions for 473 yards and three scores in 2022.
