Missouri Finally Wins Close One
Having lost three straight games before Vanderbilt last week, Missouri dropped each by seven or fewer points. Included was a four-point setback against No. 1 Georgia. The last game with the Commodores came down to a narrow margin as well, but it was finally the Tigers prevailing, 17-14, to earn their first conference victory.
“I’ve been around a lot of teams, and I’ve not ever seen a team go through what they have and still bond and fight and have the energy in the way they practice,” coach Eli Drinkwitz said after Saturday’s win. “Man, I was so proud of them.“
Wide receiver Luther Burden III had a big game in the victory, with four receptions (66 yards), and a touchdown. He also ran it in (10 yards), giving him both of the Tigers’ trips into the end zone. The freshman has 22 catches (180 yards, two touchdowns) on the season, while also rushing eight times (50 yards, two touchdowns).
Quarterback Brady Cook leads the Tiger offense, with 1,428 yards, and six touchdowns this season. The sophomore has thrown seven interceptions, however, thus crippling the Tigers at times.
Gamecocks and Win Streak
The current winning streak of South Carolina is impressive, though only half came against SEC squads. The Gamecocks started the runs with victories over Charlotte and South Carolina St., though they’ve had added wins against Kentucky and Texas A&M in their last two.
Quarterback Spencer Rattler hasn’t been compiling big numbers of late, but the team has been winning. Rattler had 168 yards (no touchdowns) against the Aggies last week, His seasonal numbers read 1,466 yards, five touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Running back Marshawn Lloyd leads the South Carolina ground game, with 526 yards and nine touchdowns this season. He had 92 yards (two touchdowns) in the win over Texas A&M and has scored at least once in four consecutive games.
