NC State vs Virginia: Howling to Bet the Wolfpack

The Wolfpack have yet to play an ACC game, so they’re looking to join the likes of Duke, Florida State, and Louisville at the top of the conference.

Following a 45-7 win over VMI, NC State looks to double down and start building some momentum. It has suffered one loss, which came against the powerful Notre Dame Fighting Irish, so we’re prepared to forgive that effort.

Sport betting markets have the Wolfpack at -9½, which is a fair line given the respective form of NC State and Virginia. NC State is playing much better, and although this game is on the road, it defeated UConn on the road to start the season.

What is happening with Virginia? It has been an awful start to 2023 for the Cavaliers, who suffered losses to Tennessee, James Madison, and Maryland.

We’re happy to concede the loss to Tennessee, but losing to James Madison 36-35 isn’t good enough, and it’s worrying, especially if you’re considering taking the betting online odds of +285.

“This one hurts and it’s going to hurt for a while,” Virginia coach Tony Elliott said. “We’ve got a football team in there that battled really, really, really hard for the last 10 months to get to this point.”

Last week’s loss to Maryland was also a worry. The Cavaliers lost 42-14 on the road, so their confidence is in pieces.

Getting +9½ at home for Virginia would usually be included in our College Football free picks, but it would take a brave bettor to the struggling Cavaliers.

They are also struggling with injuries, and with quarterback Anthony Colandrea owning more interceptions and touchdowns, it’s not a good look.
