It’s getting closer and closer to the selection of the initial 12-team College Football Playoff field, so games are becoming more and more important for the teams that are in contention to be selected. With that in mind, we’ve looked over the Week 8 college football schedule and picked three favorites that we feel will come through with victories.

Top 3 Legs to Bet for Week 8 Moneyline Parlay

1. Iowa Defense Shuts Down Michigan State

The Iowa Hawkeyes are consistently one of the better defenses in the Big Ten, if not the country, and this season is no exception. What has been amazing about this year’s version of the Hawkeyes is their ability to score. Four times this season, Iowa has exceeded 30 points, which is a big difference from last year’s team that averaged just 15.4 points.

Running back Kaleb Johnson has been a big part of that, rushing for 937 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. The junior has rushed for over 160 yards and scored at least two touchdowns in four of the Hawkeyes’ last five games, with the one outlier being against Ohio State.

That’s not a good sign for Michigan State, which fell to 3-3 two weeks ago by giving up 166 yards and a touchdown to Oregon running back Jordan James. The Michigan State Spartans are allowing 130.8 rushing yards per game, and they’ll have a difficult time containing Johnson.

Offensively, Michigan State has a talented sophomore at quarterback in Aidan Chiles, but in his first season as a starter, the Oregon State transfer has struggled with turnovers. Chiles has thrown eight interceptions while losing two fumbles, including a red zone miscue against Oregon two weeks ago.

That’s music to the ears of the Iowa defense, which has forced 14 turnovers (seven interceptions, seven forced fumbles). The Spartans will have a couple more miscues in this one, and the Hawkeyes will take advantage of them. Make sure your college football picks this week include taking Iowa on the road.

2. Kansas State Takes Care of Host West Virginia

The Kansas State Wildcats have bounced back from their only loss of the season, winning two straight games, including a 31-28 victory on the road last week against Colorado. Now the Wildcats (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) look for another road win when they visit the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday.

Kansas State’s offense has been very good this season outside of a nine-point performance in the team’s only loss to BYU on Sept. 21. The Wildcats have scored at least 31 points in every win this season, and they’ll give the Mountaineers some trouble in this one.

Running back DJ Giddens has been hard to stop of late, averaging 184.5 yards over the last two games. Giddens has 786 yards and two touchdowns on the season, but he’s really cranked it up in the last two contests.

West Virginia is coming off a home loss to Iowa State last week in which quarterback Garrett Greene threw a pair of interceptions. Greene has 1,267 yards passing with eight touchdowns, but he’s also been picked off six times.

Kansas State is very good at turning the opponent over, and it should be able to do that against the Mountaineers. We like the Wildcats to come away with another road win when this one is done, so include Kansas State in your moneyline parlay picks when you’re doing your online sports betting.

3. Miami Hits Road Again Looking To Stay Perfect

It’s been a couple of weeks since the Miami Hurricanes made college football news with a comeback from a 25-point deficit on the road against California. That came a week after the Hurricanes escaped against Virginia Tech thanks to a controversial call on what seemed to be a game-winning Hail Mary by the Hokies.

Miami has stayed perfect despite such tough games, so it is hoping for an easier time against a struggling Louisville Cardinals squad. Louisville jumped out to a 3-0 start to the season before dropping two in a row. The Cardinals snapped that streak by pulling out a 24-20 win over Virginia last weekend.

But beating the Hurricanes is going to be a bit tougher task. Miami has had two weeks to get itself right after its two narrow wins and it should be well-rested and focused for this one.

Quarterback Cam Ward is among the top picks for the Heisman Trophy this season, holding the third-best odds for the award at +600. The senior has thrown for 2,219 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

The Cardinals have had their troubles against the pass this season, especially of late, and they’ll have more with the Hurricanes’ passing game. Count on the Miami Hurricanes to live up to the college football predictions and come away with the victory on Saturday.

Question of the Day

Who won in the last matchup between Miami and Louisville?

The Cardinals earned a 38-31 road win against the Hurricanes in 2023, the 10th straight time the winner of the matchup scored at least 30 points.
