NCAAF Parlay: Totals Lead Way in CFB Semi Parlay

It is finally here. The four teams picked to play in the College Football Playoffs will be squaring off with Alabama and Michigan meeting in the Rose Bowl followed by the Sugar Bowl matchup between Washington and Texas on New Year’s Day. Michigan and Texas are listed by the college football betting lines as the favorites to reach the national championship game.

Michigan is the top seed in the CFP playoffs. However, much of the early money has been falling on Alabama while the wagers have been landing on both sides in the Washington-Texas clash.

When looking at the best college football parlays, keep in mind that there are no weather concerns to ponder. Of course, the Sugar Bowl is being played inside so there would be no weather issues.

When looking at the football bowl projections, Texas is favored by 3 1/2 points in the Sugar Bowl with Michigan the 1½-point favorite in the Rose Bowl. The winners will meet on Jan. 8 in Houston.

Now it is time to take a look at the best three-game parlay heading into the College Football semifinals with some NCAAF football picks and parlay options.

Washington Huskies vs Texas Longhorns (-170)

When the season started, neither Washington nor Texas were in the conversation to be among the final four teams standing.

Texas made its first statement by going into Tuscaloosa and handing Alabama a 10-point loss. Not even a loss to Oklahoma could keep the Longhorns from reaching the College Football Playoffs for the first time.

Both teams have dynamic offenses but the biggest difference between the teams could come on defense. Texas is 25th in yards allowed while Washington comes in 93rd.

Texas has allowed 16 touchdowns on 35 drives by the opposing team into the red zone while Washington allowed 31 touchdowns on 44 drives that reached the red zone. That is enough to go with Texas to emerge victorious in this matchup.

Alabama vs Michigan (Under 45)

We would feel a little better if the total was set a little higher to 45 by the sportsbook but this just feels like a game where the defenses will dictate everything.

If you like high-flying offenses playing at break-neck speeds, this might not be the game for you.

Michigan has allowed the fewest points among Football Bowl Subdivision teams with Alabama coming in 16th.

When looking at Alabama’s defensive numbers, keep in mind that the Crimson Tide played four teams (LSU, Texas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee) in the top 17 nationally in total offense. The top ranking for a Michigan opponent is No. 43 UNLV followed by No. 47 Ohio State.

Both teams would prefer to establish the run and that could limit the number of possessions for both teams in the game. That could result in the game landing under the college football odds total.

Washington Huskies vs Texas Longhorns (Over 63½)

These semifinal matchups couldn’t be more different. Both Alabama and Michigan have seemed reluctant to let their quarterbacks go out and win games at times. There are no such reservations when it comes to the play-calling for Texas and Washington offensive coaches.

Heisman Trophy finalist Michael Penix Jr. of Washington leads all FBS players with 4,218 passing yards. He has more completions of at least 20 and 30 yards than any other player.

Quinn Ewers of the Texas Longhorns doesn’t have those types of numbers but when he has been asked to, he has put up some gaudy numbers.

Both Washington’s Rome Odunze and Xavier Worthy of Texas have been showing up among the top-10 receivers on the 2024 NFL Draft prospect rankings so there could be some big plays happening early and often. There are some injury concerns with Worthy so keep tabs on any updates leading into the kickoff. He was spotted at practice this week.

They can both break off large gains in the run game as well as this could be a case of which team has the ball last winning the game.

Questions Of The Day

Michigan's Blake Corum has rushed for over 1,400 yards this season. Can he find success against Alabama's vaunted front seven?

Alabama was sixth in the SEC in rushing defense so look for Corum to have a productive game in the Rose Bowl.

Which quarterback will handle the playoff pressure better: Texas' Quinn Ewers or Washington's Michael Penix Jr.?

Ewers was the more effective quarterback when the teams met in the 2022 Alamo Bowl so give the edge to the Texas QB.
