The Iowa Hawkeyes are -5 favorites with the NCAAF spread to beat the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday at Kinnick Stadium.

The Big Ten matchup is expected to be a close contest, but the Hawkeyes could have the edge following a big win over Maryland and that’s reflected with betting markets.

2 Keys to Bet on Nebraska vs Iowa

1. Cornhuskers Seek Road Upset

The Cornhuskers were far too good for Wisconsin last week, scoring 44-25 in a one-sided gam, which should give them confidence against the Hawkeyes.

The win came at home, and they aren’t as good on the road, but it was a much needed win following four consecutive losses to Indiana, Ohio State, UCLA and USC. It was a torrid stretch of games, but the Cornhuskers lost their last three by a combined 19 points.

College football odds are giving them respect at +5 and +175 with moneyline markets. That’s a fair price for the road team, who got their offense back on track with a 44-point performance.

The cloud that kind of hangs over everything, it’s gone,” said coach Matt Rhule, who envisions bigger and better things for the Huskers. “This will be the last time we ever celebrate six wins.”

Getting to a bowl game is worth celebrating, but beating the Hawkeyes would be more reason to celebrate. It would be a key Big Ten victory, and there has been solid betting support for the underdogs.

2. Hawkeyes Justify Betting Line

Our expert betting picks have the Hawkeyes winning and covering the -5 spread. They have looked better over the last few weeks, including a 42-10 win over Wisconsin, which was better than Nebraska’s win over the Badgers.

They would have made it four consecutive wins had it not been for a close 20-17 loss to UCLA, but that came on the road, so we’re prepared to forgive them for the loss.

Their recent form at home includes wins over Wisconsin and Northwestern, with the win over the Wildcats coming 40-14. It was another one-sided home win, and although we don’t think this game will be a lopsided affair, the Hawkeyes should have the class edge.

Iowa relies on running back Kaleb Johnson for much of the offense. Per Nebraska vs Iowa stats, Johnson has 223 carries for 1492 yards and 21 touchdowns, so he’s one of the best in college football. His workload could take its toll later in his career, but he’s going about his business well.

If the Cornhuskers can’t contain Johnson, it will be a long day for the defense. We don’t think they’ll stop him, and he should add to his touchdown tally.

Bet Iowa -5 (-110)

Best Bet for Nebraska vs Iowa

Our college football predictions have Iowa -5 and under 39½ points. The under is a low total, but because Johnson runs so much, the clock often gets run down.

It should be a relatively close game for the most part, but the Hawkeyes are good enough to win by at least a touchdown, which is good enough to cover the spread.

The Big Ten rivals often play low-scoring games where defense stands out, and we expect nothing short of a tough battle on Friday. Take a same-game CFB parlay to boost payouts, which could include Iowa ML at -205 for insurance value.
