The Nittany Lions enter the semifinal game with postseason wins against SMU and Boise State. Notre Dame defeated Indiana and Georgia in the Irish’s previous College Football Playoff matchups.

1. Notre Dame ATS -2.5

Heading into the College Football Playoff, I dabbled with some Notre Dame futures, and the Irish have not disappointed. I thought Notre Dame had a chance to take advantage of a Georgia team that was not firing on all cylinders and more importantly, was without starting quarterback Carson Beck.

Also, Notre Dame was a bit undervalued because of the team’s loss to NIU. This happened four months ago on Sept. 7, and the Irish have not lost since.

This is not to discredit Penn State, but the Nittany Lions have had a favorable path against SMU and Boise State. Both teams took advantage of weaker schedules.

As we get closer to handing out a trophy, my sense is we will not see many shootouts. Just like the NFL, games in January often are hard-fought defensive battles.

Both of these teams’ defenses rank in the top 10 in points allowed. Notre Dame has split their games equally 7-7 when it comes to the over-under.

Penn State has trended towards the under this season. The Nittany Lions have hit the under in nine games with the over cashing six times.

I love it at 0.5 because chances are Leonard is going to throw at least one TD pass. Leonard has thrown at least one touchdown pass in seven straight games. The Irish quarterback has a great chance to extend this streak to eight.
