Ohio State Top ATS Pick vs Wisconsin

After putting on a defensive show that propelled the team’s status as one of this season’s college football odds favorites for the national title by beating Penn State, the Ohio State Buckeyes want more. Up next on the schedule is another test, but this time for the offense when Ryan Day’s team travels to Madison, where the 5-2 Wisconsin Badgers will be waiting.

With Ohio State looking to improve to 8-0 and trying to move into the first two spots in this season’s rankings, will it find the way to get past Wisconsin’s stingy defense? Or will the Badgers pull off an incredible upset in the NCAA football spreads on primetime TV?

Let’s take a look.

If Harrison Jr. is Playing, Ohio State Will Always Have an Edge

I have always been a huge fan of non-quarterback football stars taking over the scene in college football. While everybody usually focuses their sights and energies on passers, every now and again we get a positional player that’s so good it’s impossible not to put the spotlight on him instead.

In this case, I’m talking about Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., one of the top non-QB candidates in our Heisman Trophy odds page to win the award

If last week’s performance against Penn State serves as anything, it should be proof of how pivotal Harrison is to Ohio State’s offense. You could have a traffic cone playing at QB and if Harrison was running routes, you’d still get a cool 100+ receiving-yard game from him with at least a couple of scores.

With 162 receiving yards in 11 receptions and a score against Penn State, Harrison once again showed that there is no secondary ready to control his game. Now imagine what he can do against a Wisconsin secondary that has yet to be tested at a level as high as the one Harrison brings to the table.

In Saturday’s game, it’s a fact that Ohio State will once again rely heavily on quarterback Kyle McCord to get the game rolling fast with Harrison as his main target. Once that starts, stopping the Buckeyes could end up being an impossible feat for Wisconsin.

Ohio State Offense Too Much for Wisconsin Defense

If there’s something about Wisconsin, it is that even when its offense doesn’t show any signs of explosiveness, the team can always count on the defense to step up and keep all games competitive. We’re talking about a team that averages 18.3 points scored per game, the Badgers should be good to go against Ohio State, right?

Well, that would be true if it wasn’t for the fact that Harrison will be looking to put on another stellar performance like last week’s. Add to that fellow WR Emeka Egbuka returning, and all this just spells hell for a Wisconsin defense that’s vicious up front, but lacks a punch in its secondary.

I would be willing to give Wisconsin and its defense the benefit of the doubt here. But considering that the Badgers haven’t faced an offense as strong as Ohio State’s, I have to go with the Buckeyes to dominate this Big Ten bout.

It makes total sense why the Buckeyes are Las Vegas college football odds favorites, and it makes double sense to take them covering the spread with ease.

College Football Pick: Ohio State -14 ½ (-110)

Bet Over in a Rather Slim Total

Is it just me or do the totals for some of this week’s college football games involving the highest-ranked teams seem kind of scarce? With Ohio State averaging a tad above 33 points this season, and with one of the best offensive players in the country, how is the total here so low?

Anyway, instead of doubting and arguing this, how about taking full advantage and centering your online sports betting strategy around this pick? While I see Wisconsin’s defense trying to give Ohio State a fight, the Buckeyes will end up proving to be too much to handle.

I’ll go as far as giving the Badgers a two-score maximum here, mainly basing it on any inspiration that might come from playing at home. Still, the Buckeyes should easily put up 30+ points up on the board, leading to beating the over and taking you, faithful college football betting fan, to a win.

College Football Pick: Total Over 45½ (-110)
